Solo seat mounting
« on: May 07, 2006, 10:15:21 AM »
I've done some looking at threads on the topic but wanted to hear from anyone who's done it.... mounting a spring type solo seat on a 550 or 750. I've seen universal mounting kits online, and right now I'm pondering a seat and kit from these guys.. http://www.harleyseats.com/Seat_I_Deluxe_Solo_Plain.htm . Obviously this stuff is for HD's, but with a few mods I'm sure I can make this work. Any input from anyone on what they did for a solo sprung seat?

I like that idea. I've been toying with it myself. But my pocketbook isn't quite big enough for anything on harleyseats.com. I can't wait to see what others have to say.

I'm not even concerned with the cosmetics of exposed inner fender or that raised frame brace that the fender mounts on. I'm going to just leave everything in place so I can through the stock seat back on if the Mrs wants to ride with me. But if there is a quick and easy hardware kit that bolts on (and off) so I kin mount up a sprung solo seat... I'm sportin'! If people don't like the way it looks, they look at somthing else!

Dang it! I had a website saved somewheres for a source for a universal solo seat mount, and now I can't find it. (You know what I mean.... that folder on your desktop with about 40 thousand links to websites that you save for some odd reason...)

I am not a fan of running a spring mounted solo seat on a bike that allready has shocks on it, but thats my opinion...

I was toying around the idea of just making a plate off the stock seat hidges, and then mount the solo seat
directly to that plate. This way the seat pop key thinge will still work, and allow access to the battery area, just as if the
stock seat was on the bike. Still unsure of exactly what I am gonna do with my seat situation...

Good luck with your build....

I have to plead totally guilty to creating a look that has nothing to do with common sense and everything to do with attitude! I'm going to use my bike for sunny day cruises around the beach scene here on the coast in NC and for my business. ( www.4windsand7seas.com ...shameless plug warning!) My market is generally destination second (or more) marriage types, and the guys who appreciate a good looking ride, hot rod or otherwise...and the women who love them! And besides, it's fun!
I think I've zeroed in on what I need, and when the beach cruiser handlebars show up, I'll be sure to post some pics. Don

This may help but mabey not.  I put a cafe seat on and mounted it to the original hinges and mounted the lock on too, so it swings open just like the original did.  Possibily you can rig something that mounts to the hinges and your new seat.

You can get the same solo seat (basically) offa Ebay for about $30 bucks. I believe I bought mine from a guy named "triumphwizard" or something like that. Seat is of good quality, and will work perfect with the dimensions of the CB's that we all love to modify..
