Topic: Overflow tube pissing out oil

My cb550F has been sitting for a couple days and on the way to work I noticed I was laying a slickscreen of oil on the freeway and cars behind me. When I got to work my frame, centerstand, chain, back tire etc were covered in oil. The culprit looked to be a hose that rests between my pod filters (where the air box used to be).  This hasn't been a problem before now.


On a separate note does anybody know if my rocker caps need gaskets? They seem to be leaking as well. Oh if you can point me in the right direction to learn about "pucks"?

You talking about the crankcase breather hose that comes off the top of the valve cover?  Is it possible you severely overfilled the oil?

Yes exactly, but I don't believe iovrrfilled it and dipstick is okay. It has a steady leak so I do add to it weekly but i have been riding since I filled it last time and it just happened today

Pressurizing the valve cover and tranny is usually a sign of severe blowby at the rings.  If the quantity of oil is not excessive, I would do a compression test.

could have been a seeping petcock. the fuel then seeps into crankcase therefore overfilling it. does your oil smell gassy? if so, there ya go.
