Question about the actual magneto on a ARD mag
«
on:

I thought that it was talked about a bit here but cant seem to find the info.
What is the info/part number/application of the mag used on a ARD? I have a chance to get an early drive set up that is complete save the actual magneto. I seem to remember guys talking about tractor fairbanks or morris mags and using them. is this true?
I would assume that things like shaft length would come into play. also alot of the ones i see are single cylinders, can the cap be changed to run four?

My thought was that i could take the drive and a $200 mag and have a nice set up with out spending a grand for a used set up
thanks so much for any help

it looks like to could take the housing of the ARD with the drive pulleys and you should be set
But thats a big assumption
I had one but didn't have all the parts to make it work
The shop that I used, and Steve knows all about these old systems is

You must be able to do a search, there has been a lot of torque on here about them.

Hey Jaguar. I have heard discussion that it may be a FM-J4B or a FM-K4B magneto. I do know that fairbanks was not the only one used though. If I have a chance I'll try to pull mine tomorrow and give it a lookey see and let you know what I find. Need to know myself cause I broke the plastic cover.

VW was used on some other drives. The midget car guys used one that drove a VW or volvo dist/mag and a hilborn fuel pump to drive the FI. It stuck out vertical from the point area.

I think my old lincoln pipeliner welder had one on it's continental engine too. worked great until a shop mechanic changed out the ignition switch and fed it 12V.

I have searched around here and never gotten a final answer.
I should have the set up minus the mag this weekend and should be able to start taking pictures and measurements.
It seems that a few people have these and could use a mag to make everything work.
