Could have just learned something I havent read anywhere else before(clearly at least) Thinking back a few carbs I have cleaned when someone else looked at them the said that the floats were off a little . I am a master printer at a sign and screen printing shop so I have plenty of practice with measurement and those comments stuck in my head as funny when I heard them but it was from people who "knew there stuff" . I am pretty dang sure this is the reason why! It is misleading in all the illustrations of people measuring there carb floats with the carbs upside down like that picture I posted above and I havent read mention of this in any manual I have . Well this could be a revelation! I bet all my bikes in the future run much nicer 8)

Can you make me some cool vintage Honda CB550K and F shirts?

Sure can PM me- I sell reproduction decals as well as racing stripes and I have plenty of my work to show if interested. I did a really cool screen print with an 78 XS750 triple  I had a while back downtown here as well as I reproduced the tank badges for this 74 rd200 as pictured and all the vinyl pinstriping on the xs650 pictured . I sell/swap alotta of custom services for fellow enthusiasts . I am doing some custom faceplate gauges at the moment for two different members here.
Not trying to turn this into a sales pitch either but might I add I charge half the price you will find anywhere and trade for parts and such as well. I just like to help people out if I can.

here is the t-shirt print I did with that bike

Well thanks to all ,case closed on this one!
Pulled the carbs, reset float height this time with carb rack on the side as instructed, blew out the little t-fitting with air for good measure ,topped the tank off and this one kick wonder roared to life ! More importantly it stayed living ! This bike is scary fast compared to my XS750 Triple and compared to my old 74 CB750- it is stupid fast all the way to red line through all gears there is no flat spot and the throttle response is excellent,   wonder if it might have some goodies installed....I have ridden some 1100's that didnt feel this fast (could be my imagination thought  :)  )Don't suppose there is any other way to check for such without pulling the head though, I would imagine said modds would alter compression or something though that could be measured maybe not .

Anyhow I am stoked! ;D ;D ;D

Now I have found a little oil leak from the oil tank return I think ,dropped a coupla table spoons when I came to a stop and on the rear tire which is a big NO-NO. Gotta get that sorted next ,it is directly above the right side of the swing arm on the oil tank.

OH I know!!! I just figured out a way to test engine !  Anyone with a known stock cb750 up for a drag race :) in the Mooresville area? I have seen 1 orange CB750 on my way to work every day......

Congrats on finally feeling the rush of a good running 750. If the oil leak is a persistant problem once you put some miles on start another thread as this one will get buried. If your looking for a race hit the Hipo section, some bad Boyz hangin' out there  ;D

Right on-  was doing some research on old posts and I think it is the breather from the back side of my transmission ,perhaps that tube is cracked,it's a pretty good amount of oil and it didnt leak at all untill I ran it -

symptoms sound exactly like this thread

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=53096.msg568363#msg568363

I am gonna check it out tomorrow - oily tires aint cool-

also found two jet towers had some small cracks and found this solution using a .45 caliber casing to repair it.
might be a useful link for the FAQ CARB section if it isnt there already.  Seems like a common problem.

That is an interesting way to repair the carbs.
