74' CB 350f - First bike and bike build!
« on: August 31, 2011, 01:28:29 AM »
Just bought my CB a couple months ago, its in great condition, completely restored(tires still have nips on them!). I had to rebuild the carbs, previous owner let it sit up for a few years, because the old gas turned to varnish and locked up all of the floats. Finally got the carbs back on and after realizing my brainfart(I kept thinking open with the choke meant it was on.. yea, I know, DUMB haha) I got her to run. Once I got the carbs dialed in i realized something didn't sound right. The two outside cyclinders weren't firing and the pipes weren't hot to the touch. I just ordered two ignition coils from Dime City so they should be in next week. Along with my purchase, the seller gave me a whole other 350f but its in pieces, plus extra racks and parts. The extra engine looks like it is pretty good shape and the frame is in good condition.. Will probably sell most of it but the motor.

My plans with my new glory:

-tank from Benjis Cafe Racers(I know I'm going to have to mod it to fit and I would like to somehow modify it so its unique if that makes sense)
- The spare tank I have a special idea I plan on doing with it but its not getting done till next year cause I have other projects on my hand besides the bike.
-seat from RocCity (Daytona or Roadracer not sure yet)
-mod, paint, and upholster the seat
-paint the tank and side covers (I'm thinking red with cream pinstriping..)
-trimming a spare front fender
-clip-ons, new mirrors, and later on new grips
-rear sets maybe, I have to ride some more first..
-changing muffler
-wrapping the exhaust?
-drilled rotor
-cleaning up the engine/sorta polishing the aluminum(not going for a chrome look, just want to start my own patina that is from my riding)
-new tires (not sure yet, hoping you guys help me out there)
-newer/better rear shocks

Later on I would like to port and polish, a wider rear swing arm for a wider rear tire, and maybe some engine work. Though if somehow I find a chunk of money laying around I will rebuild the extra engine for performance.

I plan on asking a lot of questions/tips/connections in the weeks to come.. I have worked on fourwheelers, boat engines(gas& diesel), small engines before so I know my way around a engine and garage. I know how to weld, do electrical, and sorta fabricate, I just haven't ever done any of it on a motorcycle as this is my first bike. And in advance I will appreciate all/any help/feedback cause like my dad always told me, there's always more than one way to skin a cat..
