Pressed in slow jets
« on: June 09, 2006, 09:14:03 PM »
What would be the best way to pull pressed in jets out to clean?  Or should I clean them in the carbs?  Also I've been hearing changing the exhaust should not require a jet change, is that true?  What kind of mods can I do to my 1980 CB650 Custom?

As far as the jets go I'll reach into the way back machine and give you this as it's a little late to type it all out again....

I just removed the slow jets on mine. They came out easily with a piece of leather and slip-joint pliers. I wrapped the leather around the jet to protect it and then gently twisted with the pliers to loosen it a little. Then I gently pulled straight up. I was actually surprised at how easily they came out after reading Honda's warning in the shop manual. "The slow jet must not be removed since it is a press in fit."  Yeah...right.

Changing the exhaust may or may not require a jet change. It depends on what the exhaust is. Mods to a 650? The sky and ebay are your limit. I for one don't really know what's available as far as after market for 650s. Good luck...

After much searching I have come to the conclusion that there aren't a lot of "aftermarket mods"  available for the 650, possibly because there was no racing class for it. A firm in Canada offer a modification for the cam which I'm led to believe alters the duration of valve lift. Apart from a more efficient exhaust and carb filter setup, that's as far as mine will be going for a start.
