Davenport. IA Swap meet
« on: August 30, 2011, 06:04:04 AM »
Wanted to tell members about the swap meet this weekend. (Labor Day Weekend).   Vendors begin to arrive Thursday and Friday and Saturday the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds is packed with bikes and stuff.  Last year the grounds had more vendors than ever before.

Friday night they have vintage dirt track racing.  Smells and sounds from the bikes are in the grandstand.  The bike parking lot has many bikes to see.

I live in Davenport and already I have seen 2 Indians on the streets.  I go both days and have a great time

Steve, do you still have the Hondamatic?  Has your buddy ever run the hotrod Kawi, in the last few years..?

I'll be there Friday a.m., scouring the fairgrounds, then watching the vintage flat track races. I usually head down to Springfield, IL for the short track and the mile race, but not this year.

You have me confused with someone else.  I never had a automatic, though I do have a friend who had a large collection of H1 and H2's.

Never thought to post pics.  I always feel like a kid in a candy store and look at every thing.  Will take a camera and photo what I am attracted to.

Thanks Steve,it would be cool to see what a real swap meet looks like. Most of the ones around our area are just the small overpriced 'traveling shows' set up in arenas etc that are OK if your looking for a Harley leather jacket or such.A couple of acres of good old Jap stuff would be a fun walk.  Good Luck on the hunt.    Eric

I've read some articles about the Davenport Swap Meet weekend, sounds like a goodun, would like to make it one time.  For all you enthusiasts that can get down here to the South, don't forget Barber's 7th Annual Vintage Festival Oct 7-9.  It has a great swap meet area with parts for most any bike, and they started a really good auction last year with many bikes from fix 'em uppers to real runners.  These events are a great way to spend a weekend.
