quick simple question - bent wheel - video
« on: August 31, 2011, 09:49:19 PM »
sorry if this seems like an obvious answer.
I've been having problems with my bike where when i lean over, it feels like the back wheel will give a little unexpectedly.

if i grab the top of the back wheel and pull, it moves noticeably side to side.  so im pretty sure i have to replace my swingarm bushings.

but beyond that, i lifted it up to tighten the chain tonight, and when the wheel spins, it looks like the outside edge of the tire moves closer and then further away from the stationary parts of the bike.  this would indicate that my wheel is bent, right?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Uh, try shining some light on the wheel next time. ;) Anyway, from what I can see, it looks like the wheel needs to be trued, by tightening the spokes. This may also reduce the side to side movement.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

do the swing arm bushes for a start, the wheel can be a little untrue and be ok to ride, worn swing arm bushes will give a little clunk or "slight drop"feeling,a minimal untue wheel can go unnoticed when riding.

if its stupidly sloppy itll wear tyres out and try and steer itself,,if it only shows up when cornering a little harder than you would on the way to work just take it easy till the parts arrive, youll be ok on it i think.
