CB550 Airbox - Fits CB500?
« on: August 29, 2011, 02:44:11 PM »
Hi Guys, just joined up to learn about these bikes - because I'm buying a 71 CB500, going to pick it up in about 2 hours!

Some things the bike is missing and I want to replace, one of which is the airbox.  I've found one, but it's for the 75 CB550.  I've searched and not found anything.  So I looked at the specs, both the 500 and 550 run the same size carburetors.  Does anyone know if the airbox from the 75 550 will fit my 71 500?

Thanks for any info!

Anyone know for sure?  The parts numbers on BikeBandit.com are the same for the two bikes.  Guess I'll try it...

Which part of the air box are you talking about???  You don't need to buy that new.  I've got one I could sell you if you are looking for the plenum, filter holder, etc...

Congratulations on the new bike.

Thanks for the info bryanj, that is what I thought!

Nortstudio - the bike came with just 4 pod filters, the entire airbox assembly is missing.  So I guess I need the entire thing, perhaps except the original filter, as I suspect someone like Uni makes a foam reusable one?

I have everything you need, I might even have the carb boots.  You can email me/PM me about it.  I'd be happy to, being this isn't one of those exciting parts you love to have 2 of :).

I'll get some photos going today.

I am looking for some carb to airbox boots if you still have them. I am trying to avoid running pod filters. I have all of the airbox just need boots.
Thanks,
