What do you think of the 4ruckus Concept?
« on: September 02, 2011, 09:30:48 AM »
 I sorta like the Ruckus..
And I really love the singlestick fours..

So I was thinking, a bigger Ruckus with a 4 wood be great fun..
I have a lot of 750 motors, probably a 400 4 would be even easier to work with, but harder to find. (I do have a 400 lower end.)
So far I am thinking, a scooter wheel on the back, about 2/3 dia of stock wheel. This allows the wheelbase to shorten up around 8 inches, approx. Swingarm could be outboard of frame to give more room.
A sort of firewall between  pipes and your legs, a highpipe, probably log manifold style, like early ATP header. Footboard area like the Ruckus of course, front end with wheel size like the rear.. Weber or two , of course.. ;D
What do you think, might be a lot of fun.

I love the Ruckus and see lots of guys tweaking them a bit. Certainly not your typical commuter scooter

the 4Ruckus concept would be cool but I would hate to see you try to pull a hard launch with that wheel base!

If you do go ahead with it I will certainly be following the thread!

It's almost hard to find a stock picture of a ruckus....do a google image search and you will get far more modified ones than stock! Some pretty wicked builds out there...

Thinking about it always brings me back to the Magnacycle. That was developed for a Sportster engine, but one was built with a Honda 750.. it looked great..
If anyone can put up a Magnacycle pic I wood be grateful.
The seating position it used was considered as ideal for autos by Detroit designers.

Not even close to a Boss Hoss, they dont use a bike engine.. I like motorcycles..not farm implements..

The problem is that the engine is unsprung weight on the swingarm itself.

Also, the scoot is an automatic CVT, so you would have to rig a break or shifter setup.

There are 3 "Big Ruckus" 250's in the scooter club I belong to, I have a Vespa 250GTS.

The wheelbase is 57.5 inches, not much shorter than a CB550

Build that sucker, but use one of your 750 engines.  I have had occasion to ride a neighbors 650 Suzuki Burgman and it is a blast and handles pretty good on the open highway.  The doubt a stock 750 would be too much for a good scooter chassis.

totalruckus.com and ruckuscentral.co.nr are great forums for these little scooters (sorry, site wouldn't let me post links). There's quite a culture built around modifying them, you'll find all kinds of info about motor swaps and every other kind of mod you can think of. One guy even swapped a 600cc silverwing motor into a little ruckus (with some major frame alterations) and got it going 90mph! However, IMO, the big rucks don't have the cool factor of the little ones, it's like they're having some sort of identity crisis "am I a scooter or a real bike, agghh!"

I got caught up in it a few years ago until I found myself wanting a machine that was more capable of keeping up with traffic. Here's my little ruckus with a few minor modifications, including a cylinder bore to a whopping 60cc!

Putting a sohc engine in one (big or little) would take some serious effort but it would definitely be one of a kind, I'd say go for it.

Cheers,
B.S.

Yes, I meant build a chasis to take a 4 and make it look like a ruckus, or maybe like a Magnacycle..(with 754)
If there is more than one Rickus.. do you say RUCKI ..???

By farm implements, I meant putting a car motor into a 2 wheeler.. dont know what the y used now, but they used to have a 2 bolt flange self-aligning bearing. holding the axle to the swingarm, one on each side..!! Ecver see how far sideway you can move that if one side breaks!!
I would take the Sportster over the V-8 anyday.
