This is interesting, but for me innovation is  VW  taking the vee motor in a better more compact direction. 15 degree v with intake and exhaust on opposite sides. just like a straight motor. It saves lots of space, logistics of pipes are/is easier, and cram more  displacement and hp in a smaller package.

The VR6 is a neat engine to be sure, but not very new; VW has been working on it for almost 30 years.

        Check out this V-4 http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/hrdp_1109_v4_motorcycle_engine/

Hi Bill..

Well..this reminds me of a lot of the old school stuff that's being revived in recent years: Dodge retro homologues..Chevy 50's look alikes..Ford T-bird retro look alikes..et al.  Think the concept of returning to muscle car/bike mentality has its' nostalgic meaningfulness..but wonder how relevant it'll be in say another ten or twenty years (which we may not be around to analyze).

Please don't get me wrong here though: I love that stuff..like you and many others of our generation do.  But seems to me that the mainstream tide is towards new technology and fuel efficiency/environmental awareness/impact..etc.

Just saw several ads in the mainstream media..marketing electric bikes now.  From the tests and videos I've seen thus far..they smoke most conventional internal combustion bikes in most areas (acceleration..ET's..maneuverability..etc.).  Because the electrics essentially don't need gear changes..it eliminates the issues relating to gear changes..etc.

Anyway..didn't mean to get off on a tangent here.  Just wanted to relate that while stuff like this is always cool to see and consider..I feel were in some changing times here..in terms of bikes and what they'll look like in the future.

Hope all's well there..
