Why do you give names to your motorcycle?
Seems strange to me. I have noticed many forum members have named their motorcycles.

Most have female names since they take all your money, will leave you stranded from time to time, and are usually a temperamental #$%*. Just like how people name boats, cars, etc...

When I had one I would say going to take the 750 out for a spin. But now since I added another 3 months ago I tell my wife Im going riding on old blue or old red, because if I just say the KO or K6 she has no idea what I mean and is totally lost

I don't name mine although I flirted with the idea of calling them April, May and June...

*edit* Oh, except for my 750 which I've codenamed Mr Yuk. Takes me back to my West Central PA days...

Yup, each one of mine have a name. To me it personalizes it a bit more and it is easier to refer to each one. They have named themselves. They are more than just a motorcycle.

Lucky; I think it is silly....putting names to bikes.....I don't get it....I've asked the same question on different sites...... maybe it's just me? It could be because I'm an old coot and would probably forget the name anyway!!!

My bikes:...the "red" one...the "blue" one...the "white" one, and the "little hot rod".

Naming a bike or car has been strange tome also. Referring to a machine as her is even more strange. I'm glad you asked the question on why, I have always wondered too.

As TommyT, post #2 alludes. Certainly no more weird than the age old tradition of naming boats, usually femine names at that.

Airforce guys name their bombers. At least they did, especially when bombing. Hmmm, not so much fighters.

That has the same feel as naming a chopper or a dragracer, but seldom a roadracer. The first are more personal. The latter less so.

Tradition, this makes sense although it doesn't make it not weird. People do a lot of really weird s___ in the name of tradition.

I only call mine names when she pi$$es my off.

Very colorful names usually describing acts that are anatomically impossible to complete.

I always called my motorcycle Dorotka - or Dorothy in English. Girls name and in Czech slang it also means lady from the street - I consider it fitting too.
