CB750K 341 exhaust 5 chamber or 7 chamber
« on: January 03, 2012, 08:09:47 AM »
Anyone know how to tell if your 341 exhaust is the 5 chamber or 7 chamber?
Also, are the complete NOS 341 exhaust pipe sets that are still available 5 or 7 chamber?
How much performance is lost between 5 and 7 chamber?

I've been told to check the spot welds on the back side of the muffler.

The K2 came out with 3 baffles in the 341 pipes. The K3 briefly had 7 baffles but switched to 5 baffles mid K3 production and stayed that way till K6. There were not that many 7 baffle exhausts made as they ran too cold and rusted out. So there were actually three 341 versions. HP?, who knows. The experts say the HP drop from the K0 to K6 was around 30%, 67 down to 42 at K6but that was caused by more than exhaust changes. So if you know what year or model the bike is, you may have a clue to the number of baffles.

I have 2 sets of 341's...Set one came off an early 11/71 k2 and the only mark or difference was the number 7 and some other number or letter(couldn't tell what?)stamped on the flat part on the backside of all the mufflers.  The other set I'm not sure what year but they had an N stamped with that same mystery letter or number in the same spot.  The two sets look almost the same I think the 341's with the seven have fewer spot welds on the backside but by fewer I mean like one or two less per baffle.  If the spot welds are indication of baffle location which I believe them to be. I looked inside and they seem to be Identical as far as I could see with a flashlight. I have always been curious about this subject myself, but not enough to cut one open.
