Over the years I have raced karts, production sedans and sports cars as well as Formula Vees. It has been some time since I have owned a bike with the last being my '67 Triumph Daytona that I would still have if it had not been stolen years ago ( I still have the title and keep looking for it). My son and I are restoring '79 P200E Vespa that will be done in white and an Abarth themed finish. I also have a '62 Triumph TR4 in the garage awaiting to be finished as a vintage racer someday.
I have been looking for a project bike for some time to turn into a cafe racer. I have been open to all sorts of sizes and makes and seriously looking for a Kawasaki Avenger twin two stroke 350 or an Aermacchi single 350. While speaking with my brother in law I mentioned that I was looking for bike to build. Which he replied how about the CB750 I have in storage - it is yours if you can pick it up, and it has a couple of spare engines. The problem now is that live in the Chicago area and he is in the Tampa area.
We did have a serious discussion about the physical size of the bike and if I would be able to handle it CORRECTLY. He seems to think so, even so as a light weight 145 5-11. I have ridden all sorts of bikes over the years but have never really done any sport riding. Mentally I feel more comfortable on a smaller framed machine. Of course I want to go fast but as a road racer I am more concerned about handling/control and braking. But ... I really like the 750 and the possiblities.
I joined the forum to start collecting information and contacts in the Chicagoland area. From what I have read so far I know I found the right place.
