550 running amazing now
« on: September 04, 2011, 09:35:40 PM »
So I'd been having a recurring problem over the past week-ish. bike would run great, then totally start dying. points for 2-3 kept "ungapping" figured it out today, the part that rides on the cam was chipping away, found an old set of points that looked good, popped them in, set the timing, WOW, i think this set of points has been killing performance on the bike since i've had it. Any tips on good new points? (i'll be getting rid of the bike soon, so I don't wanna put in an electric unit, but will be riding it to work some for a little bit, and would like to put good points in.

you should not need points for a long time if you drag 2000 grit paper through them every 1000 miles but condensers are a different thing they last between 3000 and 5000 miles under normal conditions Daichi is what everybody uses but lately they have had a lot of cheap ones don't know if this is a fluke or what
when you own a motorcycle the wife does not have to find you handy she just has to find you

Hondaman's Transistorized Ignition really works. Here's the link:

I use TEC that is what my Honda dealer sells and that is what HondaMan recommends. I have a set now with 6k miles on them and they still look new. I do change the condensers every tune up. I may be throwing money a way on the condensers.
