Hello
« on: May 06, 2006, 04:52:38 PM »
Hello everybody  :) I have just joined your group today,  I have recently got myself a CB 400f 1976 model, I had one in 1979  (it's the one I'm sat on wearing the shell sport jacket)  and loved it the reg.No. was VKU 467S  it was only a couple of months old when I bought it and I finally parted with it about 3 years later and you guessed it  "wished i'd kept it"  :'(

I had a few other bikes after it, CB 900f, GS 550, GS 1000 shaft, CB 650Z, GPz 750, GSX 1100 Katana but I always wanted another 400 four.

Well I'm now the proud owner of another and hopefully will keep this for a lot longer than the other.

I reluctantly sold my Katana recently, I did the End2End run on it with the Katana U.K Owners club  last September, but I needed some spare cash so it had to go  :'(

I'll probably be wishing i'd kept that sooner or later  :)

Nice old Triumph too!

There's a similar coloured Morris Marina  ;D in the background of one of the photos in my gallery - the one with my girlfriend on board the 500/4

Is the 400 now your only bike or do you still have a modern bike?

And where are you?

Interrogation over.

I think they must have had only one colour of paint in the british car Industry back in the seventies
 :D no wonder it disappeared

The 400 is my only bike, well for the time being anyway  ;D

The more 400/4’s the better Smithy, I’m sick of reading about broken down 550’s and 750’s   ;D

Oh dear, sorry about this but my 400 is currently in bits, the clown who I bought it off re-assembled the engine without replacing the output shaft oil seal and a broken cam chain guide and also didn't locate the kickstart return spring but it should be up and running soon.

I posted on the tech forum about tyres, mainly for advice on the correct size and make  available and I am still really no wiser :-\ll

had Dunlops & Avons on in the 70's /80's and was more than happy with them what do you reckon ?

Smithy Dunlop TT100’s  modern dual compound but retro tread pattern Honda size 3.00x18 front 3.50x18 rear although I’ve put a 4.10x18 on the rear, they’re great tyres and not too expensive, I had a pair fitted with Michelin tubes and balanced for 130 odd quid

The odd 400 can have a problem or two, looks like me and you have those bikes  ;D

Welcome Smithy. I still recommend Metzelers which can be bought in the correct 3.00x18 and 3.50x18 sizes and which have good wearing and terrific grip.
Steve, you spoke of Box Hill, is that the one on the A4?
