Ever lose a Crucial part, to find it much later ?
« on: September 06, 2011, 08:51:40 AM »
 Say YES to Crack..!!
The benefits of never washing a 750!!
The above 2 could have been alternate titles..

=================================
Last fall.. or the one before I had trouble with the 750 running on 3 cylinders, took me a long time to sort out till I realized, I had lost a synch screw and was sucking air. I fixed it, it ran fine..
Last night I was setting my valves, started getting noisy on the weekend. I may not have set them in the last 2 yrs = 500 + rides!
It was hot and I was cooling the motor with water to be able to set the valves. #1 was at 8 and 6 thou! I was sitting beside the bike on a bucket putting water on it and spied something in the crack between the clutch cover and the main case at the front of clutch cover.. and I see the screw and washer.
I am looking at it and I soon realize it is a sync screw..!!!  :o the soft washer looked like a cowboy hat brim and was probably holding it in place!. Now the very strange part, I had the cutch cover off this spring, so I really think it could not have stayed there, while removing the clutch cover... plus I would have seen it.

I was very surprised to see that show up 11 months  and at least 250 rides later..

 Ever refind your lost stuff?

Not to much on my bikes but I was working a little on my car once while I was having a few cocktails. I seemed to have lost my old and most very favorite whiskey and coke tumbler, thing had been with me forever, camping etc. Was upset and never found it.Fast forward a few months or more later and I am checking my oil, look up, and low and behold there was my old friend and buddy sitting peacefully in its silent slumber, resting peacefully in the engine compartment, grateful I am sure to be reunited with me as I was it. Don't you all love a happy ending  :'(

Yes, even bought a new one, only to lay my hands on it after installing the new part. Several times in fact, dammit!

Yes I lose my mind constantly.

I usually find it in a likely place.... the gutter
" Why does anyone get offended by what someone does to their own bike? I dont get it. "

You made me think about it after I cheered knowing someone else would like to know what these control freaks are up to.
Every time any owner strips whatever precious Honda part the horrified purists parts go up in value. That's not the part that bothers them.
What bothers them is they sat up late at night, their breast full of wonder and estrogen, unable to sleep, dreaming about their lovely darling and all her glory... and next thing you know someone else doesn't share their emotional deluge and their reaction is they must spread their mind museum as far as they possibly can, taking over as much of the real world as possible.

That magnet-on-a-stick... I hadn't thought of doing that. I've got one of those little telescoping numbers, and happened to have lost the fork drain plug for my KZ this weekend in the yard. Maybe what I need is a bit more **horsepower** with the magnet. Thanks for the idea XSmooth
