hello all, im new to the 4 cyl honda club, always had some sort of motorcycle as a kid though but this is my first rebuild/restore
im on a 72 cb350f and so far its going great, but, today in attempts to rewire the bike with the solid state regulator and dyna s ignition
for some reason when i turn the power on the spark plugs automatically want to spark without me touching anything.
ive mad a test light and when i touch to ground and black and white wire it lights up, but when i touch it to ground and yellow/blue (other wire from coil) it just makes the light glow dim. does this mean my coils are bad if theyre making a humming noise and constantly sending a signal?

any help is appreciated.

I can't tell you why it want to spark when you turn on the key, but I would recommend you make things easier on yourself by wiring up one thing at a time.  Solid State first then dyna or dyna then solid state.  Best two do one upgrade at a time.

yeah im trying to figure this out, as best as i can, maybe new coils? or if the coils were bad would it not spark at all, but is it possible the coils arent resisting the energy? essentially just making the spark plug wires "hot" at all times.

I am not a dyna guy myself I just use the stock point system. I do know that PamcoPete says that Dyna is on 80% of the time. Still coils that hum does not sound right to me.   I would go back to a stock configuration and see if you still get the humming noise. With electrical it is best to make one change at a time then check your results.  I'd leave the solid state for now go back to points and see if the hum continues.

Black and White are switched hot wires always hot when the switch is on.  Blue and yellow are your 1.4 and 2.3 pickup wires they tell your coil to start charging and then release the charge.  You only need to make sure they connect to the other Blue Yellow wires.

definitely a crossed wire.  coils should not hum.   unhook the dyna and make sure all wiring is correct to rectifier.as thats probably whats causinf the hum in the coils.  the rectifier has a ground, and 12 volt switched power wire, as well as a wire back to the battery to charge it.

guys figured it out!
after calling dynatek the reason for the plugs continuing to fire when the ignition was on is because i had it on a battery charger and ac current will leak into the ignition system telling the coils to fire, picking up a battery asap then taping up some wiring and hopefully firing up soon

i should start a build thread eh?

thanks for the replies.
