Jealous doesn't even begin to describe the feeling.  That bike is...wow.

im totally new to the sohc and im buiding my first motorcycle a 75 550 and i have a 72 750 for the winter but OMG that turbo im so jealous!!!

amazing! your my new idol. wow amazing!

i take it the turbo setup has an external dump into the exhaust since there is no BOV?

found your bike on the show the before and after thread.

is the carburetor the part i circled on the picture?

*** also on a side note dont ever use the 3m blue painters tape. they are all crap regardless of what it is. use FROG tape the green tape. that stuff is bullet proof no matter what you wont get a run under the tape. 3m and frog tape actually went through a huge lawsuit because of it  :)

That is indeed the carburetor.  The intake, and exhaust manifolds are the hard to find parts.

Thank you for the kind words. I'm not sure about the term BOV unless it's blow off valve or waste gate which your right this system doesn't use. This is old technology and the turbo unit was a little big for the amount of exhaust that a 500 can put out so a waste gate wasn't needed like it is on the kits for larger displacement engines.
Yes, as Greggo said the part you circled is the carburetor. It is a Bendix/Zenith from a Harley. Right now it's giving me leakage problems that I hope to cure next week. I'm sure that there is a carb out there that is better suited and if anybody knows I would definitely be interested. I know there are some other turbo owners on this forum and I sure would like to know what other carbs are being used.
Yeah, I've learned my lesson about the blue tape. I'm really pleased it didn't turn out to be any more of a problem than it was.

Very nice pictures,
the yellow theme made it all turn out very good!
The bike looks very clean without mirrors  ;) , but then you might want to actually ride it somewhere so mirrors would be a must.
having said that, because the tank emblem is in yellow, the side cover emblems stick out a bit now, but that's only mirror and is still gorgeous like it is  ;D

Didn't Harley finally go to a Keihin or Mikuni carb on its "modern"  :o non-fuel injected evolution-series big twins?  I would think those would be readily available.

Thanks for the compliments. I think maybe the short stem black rectangular mirrors might not look too bad? I think I will check those out.

  Rusty:
I'll have to check into those later Harley carbs to see if that is an option or not. Thanks for the input.

Well I replaced my fine new O-ring chain with a non O-ring without ever putting any miles on it. That hurts my wallet but it's no doubt cheaper in the long run. I also cured the fuel leak at my accelerator pump. I took it out for a little ride and it works pretty good. I only rode it around town so I haven't checked out the main jet circuit very much yet but it feels to me like I'm going to have some adjusting to do. I also haven't gotten my mirrors yet but they should be here tomorrow or Friday at the latest. I've got to work Thursday and Friday and then I'm going to a motorcycle show and swap meet at El Camino College down in the Los Angeles area on Saturday, so I'm not going to get to fool with my carburetor until at least Sunday. I'm going to take the bike to El Camino and put it in their display only class. I've gone to this show for the last 5 or 6 years and it is always great. The swap meet is usually pretty big and I've got some things that I want to look for so that will be fun. Is anyone who's reading this planning on going? I am going to go to the open forum when I finish here and ask if anybody from SOHC/4 is going to enter any bikes in either the judged show or the display only. I'll post again when I can report on my carburetor progress.

Since the last post I did some carburetor updating. The emulsion tube/main jet tube was modified by  American Turbo Pak. The very top of the tube was relieved on one side and I went along fat, dumb and happy and pointed the relief toward the air filter when I assembled it. It ran terribly at anything over about 3000 rpm. I adjusted on the main jet with no improvement and I was really getting frustrated. Then I was sitting in front of the tv and all of a sudden it came into my head ,"you put that tube in facing 180 degrees the wrong way you dope". After I turned it around and then adjusted the main jet some it runs right up to the redline and feels good. I'm still sorting things out but with some more test riding and adjusting I will eventually be satisfied. Thought I'd post a video so you can see how it idles when it's well warmed up.

Also I took the bike to a m/c show over the last weekend. I didn't enter it to be judged but put it in the display only category. I talked with a lot of bike owners of all brands of bikes and generally had a great time. Here are a couple of pics.

I love the colour, especially the yellow.
