Throttle Valve Stuck
« on: February 10, 2011, 05:52:04 PM »
Reassembling my bike after a complete tear-down and I have it all back together with cables and all, but come to find out my throttle will only turn about 10%. So I open up the tops of the carbs and realize the throttle valve on carburetor 1 is completely seized in the shaft. Is there any tips for getting this thing out? I have sprayed the crap out of it with liquid wrench but it still won't budge.  ??? ??? ???

Thanks

Heat gun on the carb body where the slide is.  That's hot air, not open flame.  When it is hot give movement a try, it should budge and your spray lube should keep it limber.

However, if it dries out again it will stick again.  For a more permanent fix, you'll have to remove the slide from carb body and clean the "glue" off both.

I realize this is an old post; however, I was having the same problem with 3 of my throttle valves ( '75 CB550)

Like Nabors, I soaked the living &*!$% out of them with SeaFoam Deep Creep to no end.

Tried the heat gun and   PRESTO  that SOB slide right out.

Thanks TwoTired!!
