What Brand Brake Pads for 750?
« on: May 09, 2006, 01:25:50 PM »
What brand of brake pads have you guys used, what do you like best and why? I'm sure the Honda pads are great especially for $50.00. Ebay pads are about $15.00 + or -.

I use Honda pads.  Work well.

Stopping, IMO, is more important than going, and if your bike and potentially your life are worth saving a few bucks on pads or quality fluid, then by all means, go ahead.

Voyage is right!!  I'm watching your progress closely though, for I am considering dual-discs when I do my Cafe.

Don't know why Honda thought that one disc would be enough to repeatedly stop your 500 Pounds of Fun.  :D

Hey look at it this way. Many indians and harleys were heavier and had only drum brakes up front IF any!

Yeah, my original Honda pads have worked well for 31 years. Not bad for 1 set. Might even put them back on. Not even close to the wear indicator markings. Thought while I had the front and rear ends torn apart for powder coating, brake seals and fork seals I'd check with you guys and see what might have changed in those 31 years. Look at all the improvements that have come about since then. So I guess my question might be better phased as Is there a newer technology available in brake pads or do I continue to use 30 + year old technology. Double discs next tear down.

I wonder if those 30 year old pads are chock full of asbestos?  If so, they probably work better than the newer ones - better heat dispersion, that's why it was such a great insulation material.  Asbestos was/is great stuff if you're able to set aside the little carcinogenic issue it has.

I prefer to neutralize carcinogenic substances with beer. Might even pour the back wash over the pads now that you mention it. Damn good thinking.

I'm running Daido SAFE*D pads on my 550.  Work great, have a beveled edge.  Ebay 10-15 bucks.  I had EBC's and they squealed like a banshee.

Got Bendix pads on mine. They work well but you have to follow the break-in instructions to the letter.
