Where to get head work done?
« on: September 11, 2011, 02:50:39 PM »
Who are the go-to guys for headwork? Porting and polishing, etc.?

I've read a few of the "how-to" threads, but that's something that I just don't feel comfortable doing right now.

Mike Rieck (Member MRieck) in Massachussetts.  No one better from what I've read.

I sent Mike a PM earlier today. Just wondering what the options are.

I'm more interested in a "street" port, but I know this is the forum to ask on about head work.

Mike has ported four heads for me so far, streetbikes, dragbikes and everything in between. He knows what he does.

Here is my Mike R stage 3 head he did for a couple of years ago
and if you cant tell, its not even a SOHC head.......... This is my 78GS 750/840 Suzuki and the head was off a
GS850 with larger intakes and exhausts. These are 34mm flat slides. I will get this on the dyno in a couple of months

He did the shim under bucket's with all the good stuff, So when you do send your head to Mike, expect nothing but the best........

Talk with Mike.He can do whatever you want...and can afford! Speed co$t,how fa$t you wanna go? He did Samauto head,7mm conversion head, larger valves smaller 5mm stems, smaller lighter springs.Mike's stuff works and he KNOWS!!!!!Have a Stage III head waiting to see how engine going in Calendar Girl works out.Use who you prefer, lots of knowledgeable people out there, but with Mike no gamble, his stuff works! ;) ;D
Good luck with your build.Bill

I could not agree more on Mike's expertise in porting heads. He did a 1977 CB750F head for me with a 5mm valve conversion and Holy cow does that head breath. He also helped a great deal with helping me set-up the valve train setup properly as well as other engine considerations. This guy is a magician and really knows what he is doing. If you want the best...you want Mike.

Good to know.  I might be giving you a shout in the not to distant future.  I'm about to pull my 750 K7 motor and strip it down and rebuild it with a big bore kit.

Hey TG
I run some old EPM magnesium wheels and the cush drive was going bad and finaly found some replacements out of a shop in Italy
As soon as I get them replaced, I will call Brian at livingood motor sports to schedule some dyno time
I have had it on the dyno before with 29 CRs, 390 left cams and the port work was  just a good clean up that I did my self. (I didnt know Mike R back then)
I have the dyno charts somewhere from the runs a few years ago but will have to find them
Will keep you posted
Jim
a stock motor is 72Hp but I wounder if that is at the crank.
