fender / tail light modifications
« on: September 08, 2011, 07:38:30 PM »
My 2 year 400/4 build is coming to an end. To finish I need a rear fender/tail light combination that works. They dont have to be in the same place, I just want to toss the honda breadbox style light, and go with a sleeker looking setup. I would like to see what the members have done with your bikes. Post a picture for inspiration please. I  will post one of my bike tommorow, so everyone can see what Im working with.
Thank you. This forum has been a priceless resource for every aspect of my build.

I have two stock mounts so Im gonna drill holes for the blinkers to screw right into the mount. That way the lights will house in the same unit.

I cut my front fender in two and used part of it for the rear fender, and I had an old taillight from a C70 or something.  After some sheet metal cutting and bending, this is the result:

All the parts look correct because they are Honda parts, but it's a lot tidier.

I really wish i had a picture but..... I cut about 6 inches out of my rear fender keeping the stock light mounting holes. Then I did the normal welding grinding filling grinding and so on. It looked perfect primed but then i ran the top coat so i have to re-sand and whatnot. It looks absolutely stellar on the bike. I haven't tried to mount the light yet, but i am hoping it sits something like johnny boys. I like the idea about the central light fixture utilizing the oem tail and blinkers. This is good because I've been trying to determine how I would shorten the rear signals after I removed about an inch per side in the front.

I have an aftermarket light from Mike's XS on my 350 Four:

For my upcoming 350 Twin build, I'm going to go with this Lucas light I just picked up:

Btw.. I give John 100% rights to the idea. Thanks Again! I'm just happy I kept my stock fender but shortened it although the light sits at a bit of an angle.

Cut I dont remember how many inches off and slid it up under the seat.  Replaced with slingshot cycles tail light and emgo turn signals

You made me think about it after I cheered knowing someone else would like to know what these control freaks are up to.

They were a touch too big for my style, but the emgos are a bit too small.  I would like to find some middle ground.

Something like this, perhaps?

1-7/8" diameter, a little bigger than the ones I'm using, which are 1-1/2".  Lockhart-Phillips seems to be out of stock at the moment, tho.
