Amazing video.  http://edition.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/09/13/utah.motorcycle.crash/

No helmet either, and this guy lives and breathes today.  He used up all of his reincarnations though  :o

They must've assumed he was dead the way they let him lay there without checking vitals...

I noticed that too what a worthless POS! I hope he's shamed by this video but he'll probably sue the biker to have his suit dry cleaned.

I thought the suit might be a lawyer, not knowing which to represent. But he may have been the driver.

As to no first aid, as far as the civilians, probably no training. And the police, no excuse to touch the body till parameds confirm no neck damage. They touched more than they should have. I think. But vitals and first aid (first help), well I don't know that i would have known what to do, but tell people to leave him alone.

Everyone was scared, seemed to me, to get involved but the overwhelming humanity forced it on them.

Too many lawsuits.   :'(  Some states have some good hold harmless Good Samaritan laws.

Remarkable all things concidered.

I'll try to translate this. :)

"Idiots! Have they not learned first aid? Not even the police officer checked for a pulse or to see if he was breathing. The law says the only time you shouldn't try to help is if the victim has been decapitated. Always try to try to save a life. In Europ all drivers get taught first aid at driving school. It's criminal to leave him laying like that."

And I agree with you completely.

At least half of the people there had a recent CPR class, the very least you can do in that type of a situation is check for breathing, pulse and administer CPR if you don't sense either.

How do you know that? Just curious.

Certainly if true they must have been in shock.

Most of the people helping to lift the car were construction workers on a road job- most everyone on those crews has up to date CPR training- part of the safety training mandated by OSHA, you never know when you might have to use it out there.

I saw that.  I too was kind of thinking, "Why are they just letting him lay there after they dragged him out?"  But again, that's me sitting in a chair at home and not on site...

Well, some states have a Good Samaritan law, others don't.
So, unfortunately you always have to be careful....

That being said, I can't recall the number of times I have stopped to
help crash victims.

Sometimes I still have nightmares of body parts flying
though the air, and the ugly sound they made
when they hit the side of the church,
then trying to calm the biker down and stop him from going
into shock.

peace,

True. I took a look at Michigan's law and it only makes provisions for folks involved in health care in some fashion. No reference to laypeople so one could find themselves in some liability trouble.

They did far more than they had to. I'm not going to sit here in my cushy chair and critique what they did.

Here's Utah's Good Samaritan law.
http://www.cprinstructor.com/UT-GS.htm

Any good lawyer would drive a wedge in the "grossly negligent" space.

The motorcyclist is reported to be doing well in the hospital. As opposed to near certain death. So that's good.

PS: I read up further with examples and the law seems pretty well defended. I think first responders were on the scene and there was confusion as to who should do what next.

PPS: Final comment then I'm out. Seems first responder told the crowd to move back after freeing the victim, for their own safety.

Amazing thing, glad it ended well.
