Product Review - Raask Rearsets (cb650)
« on: May 19, 2011, 05:03:20 PM »
The first thing I would like to say about these rearsets is to make sure you have access to a machine shop as the installation on a cb650 is not as simple as just bolting them on.  You will need to make longer versions of the bolts that go through the foot-pegs and the swing arm.  McMaster-Carr had the cheapest prices on M12 and M14 stock.  Make sure you get 1045 bolt-grade steel.  It is a little harder to cut threads into but it is going through a motor mount and the swing arm so it CANNOT break!

I also had to flip the rear brake upside down in order to get the brake actuator to line up with the new brake pedal.  The petal return spring and brake light switch also had to be relocated in order to function properly.

Other than that I'm happy with them.  They function smoothly and other than the previously mentioned issues, went on fairly painlessly.  If you have clubmans, clip-ons, or otherwise low handlebars, they make long distance riding MUCH more comfortable.  Plus they have the added bonus of looking good.

If you have any questions not answered here, feel free to PM me.

It's been cold and rainy the past few days so I took advantage of the nice weather to clean her up for a little photo shoot.

Those look good. I'm trying to figure out how to graft a set of rearsets on my '79. It's hard to see in the picture... How is the brake pedal attached? Does the rearset bracket "hang" below the stock peg mount?

Take a look at this link as it shows a better diagram of the parts:

http://www.rearsets.info/FH18.JPG  This is the site I bought my kit from.

The shaft and bracket inside the frame that the brake lever slips over is still used, it's just moved backwards to the new pedal location.  The real pain is flipping the brake and re-building the brake linkage as it needs to be about 5 inches shorter.

I'd take some new pictures but my bike is currently undergoing a bit of re-construction.
