Front end Questions, cb750 1974
« on: June 11, 2014, 03:38:21 PM »
So I purchased a 1974 CB 750 and I needed to do some work to the front end, before I could ride it.

I had the calipers rebuilt so  my questions stem around that.

Installing the banjo bolts what are the torque specs for at the caliper and at the MC. I read somewhere it should be 20 to 22 ftlbs for the caliper, can someone confirm?

So I now have a new brake pads do I need to use any type of brake grease on the back of the pads kind of like I have always done with my cars brakes or do I just put them in dry?

I ended up picking up a Spiegel speed bleeder how far am I supposed to insert this. I've never taken out the bleeder before to put in a speed bleeder.

Thanks in advance for the help

Did you use new crush washers on the banjo bolt?

Yes, but a dab of proper grease on the back of the pad to prevent squeak. Be sure brake pad slides in/out of caliper, some pads need the paint removed on the side of the metal or will not release properly.

I just recently installed a speed bleeder on my K4 too. Screw in all the way in and then back out 1/4 turn to bleed.

+1 on what Steve said about pre-fitting the pads. Not only does the paint need to be removed sometimes but some of the pad material around the edges may need to be dressed up also for a proper smooth fit. Remember bare steel likes to rust so address that also if paint is removed with a very light coat of high temp grease.

New brake line, new banjo bolt, new crush washers

Thanks for the advice, it didn't seem right as is. Didn't really fit and didn't want to force the pad in. Makes sense.

What about the tightness on the bolts?
