Removing advancer shaft
« on: September 12, 2011, 08:50:56 PM »
I was doing some adjustments on my points, and it seems I stripped the threads on the advancer shaft.

How do i remove the advancer shaft? I hope you dont have to split the cases to remove the shaft.

Drill it out and put in a heli-coil.

Hopefully it's just the bolt that's stripped & not the crank.
Once the points plate is removed & that dreaded bolt the pics should be enough to explain.

I'd be careful...that hole leads to your crank oilways.

I believe it just unscrews.   And that part is no longer available from Honda.  :(

Correct it unscrews from the crank, but its tight, and there is an "O" ring on it which needs to be in good order.
Also it has been discontinued

Great - so a pair of vice grips should get it out?

if there's still part of the rod sticking out from the crank, put some heat on the crank (not too much but warm it up), then get some vise grips.

Yes vice grips or a proper stud remover will take it right out.
