Thanks guys,

Retro: The paint is VHT's. I must say, for rattle can paint, it's probably the best. the clear goes on nice and smooth and leaves a smooth like butter texture when you touch it just like a two stage paint.

I'll have to post some pics later on of my plating process, it's making the fasteners like new.

I've just recently looked at what you've encountered. trust me, it's all worth it once you get putting things back together, and to me the best part is saying "I did that" Keep up the good work

Well I can't believe it!!

This first project has been a damn long one, but I think after the 3 years of working on it here and there has paid off!

When I got the majority of the bike together I threw the carbs on without the airbox and exhaust and just thought I'd try rolling the engine over, seeing if would possibly start. How ever much I had hoped that it would start, I didn't really have too much faith after having the whole engine apart... I thought this was just going to be a permanent garage ornament that I could only look at.

I turned the key on, all lights came on as they should, so I pulled the choke, turned it over for a bit to see if the oil pressure light went off while I still had the kill switch on...

Pressure light went off... awesome!! So, I turned of the kill switch and pressed the starter. The thing fired right up as soon as I pressed the starter!! It scared the #$%* outta me!! First of all since I didn't think it would ever start, second of all since the thing had no pipes on... The celebration began and I got everything else in place!

I have a few other items to look at but for now the bike runs and rides, which is awesome. This will probably be an ongoing toy to keep adding and modifying some things... especially the suspension, but for now being able to ride the thing is a dream come true!!

Here's some pictures of the beast.

It has come a long way and the engine is so much stronger than what it was before.

In the future I'm hoping to build the engine, but for now I'll just keep it the way it is.

Thought I would add a couple things that I did, I'll probably forget some but here goes...

frame, tank, side covers, upper triple, lower triple, rear springs, brake caliper refurbished and painted
rebuilt master cylinder
rebuilt brake caliper
new oem front brake line
stainless braided lines from master to caliper line
all balls tapered steering head bearings
new grips
china bar end mirrors
1980 cb750k front and rear wheels with new bt 45 skins
Tarozzi rearsets - had to do some modding for them to fit
new RK 530 chain - non o ring
OEM 4 into 4 that I had to weld a patch in the number 4.... not perfect but it will work for now
purchased a zinc plating kit to plate all nuts and bolts to bring them to like new condition
engine teardown to replace all gaskets, seals
replaced piston rings with OEM standard rings
Lapped valves
cut original seat pan and reworked to fit
custom fabricated tail section to mate up to zx10r cowl
cbr1000 smoked integrated tail light
led front blinkers
superbike bars
new oem in tank fuel filter
placed inline fuel filter as well

I think that is everything!  :)

Great looking bike Akinz.  I have a couple questions though.  Why the gold on the rocker cover?  Very creative mixing and matching of parts.  And that exhaust, I always liked that one.

im not keen on the no left cover though,,id put stainless button heads in the unused holes,it almost looks like the new naked  retro cb1100?which strangely carries a 4-1 exhaust though.

the left cover is great polished and would add detail.

I'm hoping to find some gold pinstripes that I can line the middle of the bike with. My original thought that I was going to go for a norton black and gold paint scheme, but that faded away. So yea, I need to tie that colour in.

I left the cover off for a bit to see if I had any oil leaks for the time I was taking it around. I do have the cover on now :)

That's a nice job ya did on that bike. The tail section  looks fantastic ,the seat looks like a ballbuster but that tail is just what the 550 needed, clean line, no tail lamp mess...... excellent choice! Great job!
