EK Chains
« on: September 17, 2011, 11:52:07 AM »
Hi guys, Im looking for a new chain for my 75 CB550. I know it needs to be 530 100 non o-ring and Ive heard a lot of talk about EK chains. They seem in my price range and even bike bandit suggests them for the 550.

http://www.bikebandit.com/ek-530-standard-non-sealed-motorcycle-chain?mg=960&t=1

However, the problem is, on a lot of sites I see the chains listed for a max of 350cc street use.

http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/EK_530_Sport_Non_O_Ring_Chains_p/ek-530-s.htm

Is this because today's 350s make more hp then our CBs? Has anyone else had experiences with these chains?

Thanks

my 550 would tear it in half not a lot of tensile strength the original and best chain for the bike was made by mk Diamond or just diamond chain company they are still around today and make one of the best chains ever in the value end of the scale you can find them online I have tried lots of chains and they all don't hold up on my bike D.I.D is not horrible if you can't find diamond but my original diamond outlasted 5 other companies chains just my personal opinion and I realize that my bike is unusual as compared to the other 550's  It has more horsepower and so much torque that the tire has to be screwed to the rim and loves to stretch chains and eat ignition condensers like candy but it also goes 125mph

an ek or rk chain will do you ok,dont use an o or x ring chain its too wide and will foul on the case at the front sprocket, replace the sprockets at the same time,,your new chain on old sprockets will wear much faster,,you can also buy complete sets of sprockets and chains, google is your friend, lube the chain regularly and dont over tighten it,over tightening is perhaps the most wrongly done thing to a chain short of letting it run dry.danno if your 550 can tear an ek chain in half it must be able to pull the wheel up in third?

I have an EK x-ring 530 chain on my 650, it has done nearly 2000km and I haven't yet had to adjust it, I just give it a squirt of chain lube once a week at the same time I grease the swingarm and it's all sweet  ;D

I have both DID and EK chains on my bikes, I prefer the DID but the EK seems to work alright and is very cheap.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!
