Differences between 1979 cb 550 and earlier cb 550's?

What are the differences between 1979 cb 550 and eariler cb 550's. I cant find much info on the the 79 cb 550 for some reason!

Any help is much appreciated!

Hey Jay,

Your title may say 79, but its prolly a 78 as that was the last year the CB550 was made (pre-nighthawk anyway).

The 77 & 78 are nearly identical. Both differ from the earlier years with changes to the carbs and pipes.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?

So what your saying is if I got the 79' and wanted to put the early style tank and seat on the bike they would look identical? I think the one I am looking at is a F series!

the 75 is the last year that also had carbs that ran rich before the epa stepped in and leaned them out a little in 76

the top of the engine with the tappets dont have the screws that hold the pin shaft things that the tappets slide over.

the rear pegs is a solid stamped thing off the side of the frame and not the tri tube holder things

The '77 and '78 also had "trap door" tanks instead of the raised gas cap.  I think as long as you match the seat to the tank, you can swap between F and K.
