just bought (2) CM400T's
« on: September 14, 2011, 08:35:27 PM »
I know there are CM400t owners out there. Lets start a site for these bikes. I have (4) SOHC4 bikes but this is my first CM400T. I would like to know more about them, and talk to other owners. I got 2 for the price of one. One is titled and running, the other is just for parts. They are both 1980 CM400t's. Hope to hear from other owners.

Er, why did you buy them mate, apart from them being cheap? I always thought they were boat anchors...........  :-\
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I bought and sold 2 of the 1980 & 1981 CM400E's and CM400C's. I really like the styling of the raked forks on the C's. They were fun for running around the country side, but after about an hour I felt cramped on the bike and the seat killed my seat. Sold them both. I think the CB750 really spoiled me!!!

Ha ha, no offence to you mate, everyone's taste's are different, but I always thought those old Honda twins were a horrible heavy POS. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I would not have rated mine as a POS, they were for sure better than that. ;D And Terry is correct in that everyone has different tastes. I liked mine. Got plenty of compliments. The CM400C I had looked mint when I got it done and believe it or not was able to land $1,700 for it. The CM400E I got for $50 and sold it for $1,000 so did alright. They are good learner bikes especially for the short crotch out there. I am 6 foot though and like I mentioned would get a little cramped in the thighs after about an hour. I could have put on some highway bars to stretch out a bit, but wanted to keep it stock. But when it got time to ride a bike I just wanted to get on the CB750 rather than the CM400. And when I was on the CM400 I wanted to be on the CB750. So it was time to move on and sell them both. However, my son learned to ride on one of my CM400's and the projects were worked on by us together. What a great father / son project.

Funny you should say that because I just bought a few weeks ago a 1978 CB750K and I don't fit on it. I have a 29" inseam (vertically challenged). My Cb550F fits just right and my '85 Harley fits great too. I'm thinking that this '80 CM400T should be right up my alley.
