Cleaning bullet connector's female side
« on: September 15, 2011, 06:06:46 PM »
It's easy to remove corrosion from the male side of bullet connectors, but the female side has always frustrated me. Stumbled on by far the best tool I have found for this. A small bore .17 caliber brass rifle cleaning brush avaiable for a few bucks at sporting goods stores has a tapered end small enough to get the brass bristles all the way into the female connector. Some finger rotation of the brush and you're quickly down to clean bare metal. Plug it back into the emery cleaned male end and the connection will be primo again.

Thanks for your post...I have tried a .22 cal. in the past & it was always too big;can I find a .17 cal. bore brush as you have described in any local department store(Walmart, etc.) or do I have to go to a specific type of gun store ?

I used Tarnex with good cotton pipe cleaners...then flush with dentured alcohol. Then hit with a dose of Deoxit..

Just today I was looking at a big greasy ball of my wiring and thought to just ..dip..into some of that air conditioning coil cleaner stuff. It almost etches the aluminum it cleans so hard.

I will try this .17 bullet technique first though. I love adding new tools to my box O tricks, and tired of sketchy chemicals in my basement. Thanks

I found the .17 cal size at Big 5, a local sporting goods store chain. Any gun shop should have them as well.

Dirt cheap- just a few bucks if I recall correctly. I bought 3 when I saw how little they cost.
