Looking for inspiration...
« on: October 03, 2011, 09:43:42 PM »
Hello, I'm new here, (well posted once for a spark unit, thanks cb650) but have been lurking trying to soak up knowledge.  I'm lucky enough to have been given a 'nearly' running 80 cb650 after buying a 80 cb650.  I 'cleaned' true carbs on the one I bought and was able to go to work and home once.  It needs synchronizing and other tlc to run smoothly.

The one given to me, I was able to ride most of the way home.  It dropped cylinders 3-4 a mile from home and haven't had time to test anything yet.

My goal is, to have two very reliable, smooth running bikes, that I'll never race or abuse.  My dad is getting one of them next spring if all goes as planned.  Also, trying to keep costs at or as close to $0 as possible.

I'll slowly tackle the hopefully small issues on the bikes.  I'm just posting to say hello and would like to know how many of you have these bikes as your daily, or near daily drivers, and with proper maintains, how long (miles and time line) have you been able to keep the heart beating a reliable?

Thanks!  Tom. :-)

well they are 30 years old and have been either looked after or abused. you will need to pull the jets etc in the carbs, look in the faq's. you shouldn't need to buy any kits.
new oil, air filter and tune up will reveal what you have. they are Hondas so you should be good to go.

Indeed, I'll just have to be patient and keep trying and learning.
