What ID/OD Tygon fuel line do you run on your bike, please?

5mm ID is Honda OEM and only available mail order in this neck of the woods. 1/4" works with clamps. I make mine out of brass aircraft safety wire for coolness.

I have a huge roll of 3/16" regular fuel line I bought at a hardware store closeout.Works out to 4.7mm and works great with no clamps or leaks

I've had the bright-yellow Tygon line on my bike for a couple of years now and it certainly is immensely better than the cheap clear stuff from Autozone, etc. Just curious, though.....has anyone else had issues with it shrinking/hardening over time? I noticed just this summer when I put my tank back on after having it repainted that the fuel line was significantly shorter and harder than it was originally. My lines barely reach the petcock now and I'll probably have to replace them soon. I thought this stuff was supposed to be resistant to shrinkage/hardening...but maybe not?

My other thought was that maybe my periodic doses of seafoam has caused this? Just curious.

You don't have a NAPA store anywhere? I purchase 3/16(but it isn't tygon) from them as well as all the other sizes I use...Larry

I found some 5.5mm line on ebay, which I was happy about (stock for the CB550K), but have now been wondering if this is what is clogging up my slow jets every 5 minutes. I have been told by a few people recently that the Ethanol has been known to eat away at the softer rubber type line. UGH!

I usually go with fuel line for air cooled VW's. I get it from a local restoration place down here, works great with no clamps too.

3/16" ID is fine, and readily available as stated above. The issue on some bikes (my 69 K0) was the OD was too large to fit through the rack. Tygon also will bend in a tighter radius than NAPA hose without kinking. That was also an issue.

The yellow Tygon 4040 is their fuel resistant tubing. However, it will harden over time. I replace the fuel/vacuum lines on all my bikes every year. Tygon 2075 is more resistant than 4040, but only comes in clear. I found that you cannot use the 2075 clamp-less (It gets very slippery when exposed to gas) but it does hold up nicely. I also use the 2075 stuff for brake reservoir tube and the brake fluid has no effect on it.

Hmm the 3/16 regular line I use seems to have a fairly small OD,fits easily through all the 71-76 carb rack holes fine,maybe another difference in the early 69-70 bikes ??

I bought mine recently in a store that sold and repaired Tractors and farm Equipment, chaion saws, etc. Good stuff needs no clamping and should be immune to ethanol. 3/16. I swap it out when I change my inline filter evry couple of years.

You're right- 3/16" line fits easily through the rack holes. I think the poster meant to say 1/4" line may not fit (some does) through the rack. 3/16" line is actually smaller than OEM.

I use 1/4" tubing with clamps just because it's so hard to get 3/16" over the carb bibs down in that tiny space between the carb bodies. The larger tubing slips over easily.

Nope, just put the end of a needle nose in the end of the tube to open it, spit on it and put it on quick. Spit dries, you will have to cut it off. You can subsitute Poland Spring for spit if you like.

I use needle nose and RemOil to fit tight hoses.

I just ordered the Honda 5.5mm fuel line from Bike Bandit...unfortunately it only comes in 5 meter lengths for $50 but who cares...at least it's the right stuff. It came in a Honda bag with a Honda part number.

The local Honda dealer didn't have the Honda 5.5mm stuff in stock.

If anyone wants any let me know, I'll cut some and share the cost plus mail.

I've used heat on the carb boots with great success, but never thought about using it on the fuel line. Good idea.

Got tygon lines from ebay yesterday, impressed! Soft and strong in the same time and it is easier to fit them round the choke linkage than any rubber.

what so special about tygon?

i think tygon only makes stantard a google searched 5mm and nothing came up other than 3/16 ("5mm")
