My friend dumped his Ducati 1098
« on: September 17, 2011, 09:22:01 AM »
So a good friend of mine has been riding his 1100 Ducati to work lately... (he also has a 1000)
He's been to the track many times on both bikes. .. An experienced rider. ... ?

Leaving the other day ...
up and over the railroad tracks...
about 100' to a left turn onto a main road...
a hard low side slide ..

Ground up the side of his bike pretty bad, broke the shifter, mirror, and a few other things.
Messed up his ankle and now he's on crutches. He got lucky!
He told me he figured out the problem was a combination of three things that contributed to the accident.
1. He was fatigued physically from working out just prior.
2. His tires were cold so traction was not great.
3. He has a bubble in his brake line so his breaks were a little squishy.

He told me he was going about 60 over the tracks and slowed down to about 25 before making the big wide left turn... which is of course all downhill after the RR tracks.
Although he didn't consider it part of his list...
4. He was going too fast.

Thinking about it later... I wouldn't ride my weak little 750 if any one of these things came into play.
Let alone all of them...
.... thanks to my stupid ass friends for reminding me to ride smart and stay safe.

+1, I don't ever ride to or from working out. Besides the obvious, it's more of a chore to bring suitable clothing with me to do so.  Maybe if I had some better bags it would be doable.  But the physical state comes into play more I think.   I've read about the Duc's ergos, it has to be hell when you're fatigued.
Just call me Timmaaaaay!!!
