Sticky throttle
« on: September 18, 2011, 06:53:02 PM »
Had an old fart back into my 550 four knocking it over. Looks like mostly my rubber pegs took the weight but my throttle grip is shredded and my throttles now sticking. Seems like it's loosening some but doesn't have the same SnapBack it did. Not really sure what to look for that's causing the stiffness

You are probably going to need to replace the throttle sleeve and grip.  Are the handlebars bent?...Larry

sounds like he bent the bar causing the throttle sleave to bind on the bars you may be able to straighten it by taking it off and puting it in a vice and using a piece of pipe to straighten it may have to be heated my bars are chromolly

remove the throttle cable and look for any kinks.. Also check the throttle sleave for cracks... Cost like 8 bucks from motion pro.... what the old man say when he hit it?

I've switched out the bars for shorter clubmans so I don't think they really took as much weight aside from the very end of the grip. Was lucky and a guy across the street with an old norton saw it go down and found me in the bar I was in. Old man didnt even know he hit it, so he says... I'll have to take a closer look at the cable tomorrow. Guess 37 yrs w/o hittin the ground was a good run

Did it fall on the throttle grip side? If so that is the area I would be check. Could be as simple as the whole controller- pipe shifted up the bar and inside of grip end is rubbing on bar end.
