Topic: Honda wing color question

Hi All,
here is a picture of some Honda wings I have.
Any idea what color I should paint them?
ie, OEM colors, not purple/pink etc etc

Is this chromed?  I personally like metallic color with black wash would look nice but that also depends on the bike's color, I guess.

If they're chromed metal, then no color at all except semi-gloss black background (surrounding the word HONDA and around the outer perimeter of the wing).  The word HONDA and the feathers of the wing stay unpainted chrome.

If they're decals, I've seen the same black background but with yellow feathers.  Also, white backgroud, black HONDA letters and yellow feathers.

What bike are they going on?  Are you looking to go stock, or at least kinda stock?  Or just looking to match a paint scheme?

Shoot them white and then everything raised black, including the edge.

They are NOT decals.
off a 1960's honda cb/cl350/450?

"HONDA' is gold colored,
wing is silver.

I would like to retore them to original colors, IF
someo;ne knows what they are.

i image searched honda wing emblems and the closest i saw was wing stayed gold honda in white and everything else black

Not to be rude back at you, but you should have worded you question a little differently. Instead of "Any idea what color I should paint them?", maybe  try " Any idea what color they should be?"

As to that, they look way more contemporary than 60s.  I'm thinking late 70s.  And probably, the wings and words are the original coloring. If anything, the background was probably black, and has flaked off.

Well, that's a good question:  what they go to.

I can't seem to find a model at all that has emblems that look like that.  http://www.motorera.com/honda/index.htm

All the 60s model Hondas used a black round badge kind of emblem with a wing and the word HONDA, sometimes with the cc's as well.

The CB/CL 350s and 450s all seem to have the wing and the word HONDA separate in the 60s and by the 70s, all they have is the single, simple word HONDA.

Very odd.....


*edit*  the only thing I can find that's even close is what tech J said - mid 70s XLs and MTs used a decal that looked like that with white word HONDA, yellow/gold wing and black outline.  But, clearly a decal.

I'm really curious now to ID what they go to...


*edit II*  hmm....  curiouser and curiouser.  I found a couple late 70s / early 80s models that look to use a metal plate like that - the 650, 750 and 900 C models and a Nighthawk or two...  But, even then, in those versions, it looks like the wing "flares" upwards more as it extends back.  In yours, the wing looks much 'flatter' as it extends back.

yeah I hear you.
I thought they might go to one of the bikes I have (www.vtcycle.com) but
when I put them up to the gastanks I have none matched.
The CL/CB450's all have the round Honda emblem....

Measurements = 4.55mm thick
"honda" 111 mm long
71mm high

I'm thinking I got these in a box of parts....
not from one of my current/former parts bikes.
