CB500 - Valve Guide Parts
« on: September 06, 2011, 04:50:35 PM »
I'm having trouble figuring out the parts associated with a valve guide replacement.

The parts fiche under VALVE ROCKER ASSEMBLY has an inner and outer washer. The fiche for the cylinder head shows an O RING sitting between the valve guide and head.

Can someone explain the sequence of parts?

The oring goes beneath the guide flange prior to driving the guide into the head. It prevents oil from draining down the guide hole (which is pretty tight to begin with). The washers go on prior to putting the valve springs on.

Thanks MRieck!

Have the head apart and each exhaust is leaking around the valve guides leaving a bit of trail of oil as evidence. The guides and valves seen to be ok, the seals may be suspect.

I am wondering if its worth pulling out the guides to replace the ORING. Is this a common issue? I would have though with such a tight fit that the ORING would be superfluous

Hey Ben,

I think I have the same problem. When I removed the headers I could see seapage around the guid. I thought at first that it was just the valve stem seals, but now I think it's that damn o-ring under the flange of the guide.

My guides are good, I was hoping I could drive them out to place a new o-ring in then re-use the guides. Have you done this yet?
