OEM Honda Parts
« on: April 22, 2006, 02:20:28 PM »
Where can I order brand new OEM Honda parts for a 1975 CB200? Could I just go to a Honda deal and have them ordered? Does Honda even still make parts for vintage bikes?

Zombie thread.

I wanted to start it back up because of all the *NEW* Honda parts all of a sudden. It seems like every search I do on ebay for a simple obscure part there is a brand new original Honda part? I know you guys have seen them with the red Honda sticker with the part # and everything. Are these real? Where was all of this stuff 3 years ago? Is Honda now making the old stuff again? Why doesnt any of this *NEW* Honda stuff have their logo on it?

examples on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HONDA-FRAME-DECAL-S90-CT90-CL90-SL90-ST90-/280738446720?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item415d50bd80

first thing i notice is that the part #is not for an S90.

This is something which has puzzled me also, my thoughts were that people in the Far East (China) were making copies including the Honda part# sticker, also maybe someone else noticed parts for another model were very similar. I found that the rubber boot for my 400f gear lever linkage was the same as fitted to the modern CBR600 if I remember right. The 459 code from your fork boots relates to the CT110 from the early 80's

Yeah, my parts code sheet doesnt even go past 422 (CBX). The Frame sticker is for the C50 and C120. I have just been so disappointed with the quality of the parts that I got from Vietnam and Thailand. I havent used a single item that was bought for my 90, it seemed in better taste to just clean up what was original.  I bought a brand new one piece exhaust for it.....no way will it ever fit without cutting and re-bending.

I would rather buy something rusted with an "HM" on it than a brand new copy. Lesson learned.

So who is making all of these new "Honda" parts with the nice red labels?

Parts cross-reference software.

I have not tried this but it looks intriguing.
This guy sells CD's on ebay.

Having done business in the Far East at one time it is customary to knock off parts. Not like you think. Someone like Honda ordered some parts made. The shop will fill Honda's order and make some for themselves. Honda like everyone else is outsourcing to Vietnam and other low cost markets. Some of these are small shops that can afford to do short runs.
In Hong Kong you could buy knock off designer Jeans. They were made in the same factory as the real ones using the same cloth, they guy simply ran an extra shift using extra material and labels he bought from his suppliers.  We bought Cassettes on the street in Indonesia, looked perfect and played perfect. When you bought one in the States, you look at the package "Made in Indonesia" printed on the back. ;D ;D ;D ;D
I have heard the OEM Honda parts bought from Honda are not plated as well or finished. Any idea where they come from? Nam, India and other cheaper suppliers.

I bet I could take a part and making some calls have a run made overseas.

I recently found a guy named Steve Blake doing business as Hondarestoration.com. He has a ton of old, discontinued stuff, and his prices are much better than eBay. More like the last listed prices on a dealer's fiche. He ships really fast and reasonable. Can't recommend him enough.

I have also recently noticed what appears to be an abundance of NOS parts, especially on eBay. I have been tempted to buy, but am a little leery thinking they could be knock offs.

Yeppers. Don't buy any OEM off flea bay unless a high rated seller in the USA.  Some exceptions but not many.

Buy from my source only. Even cheaper than bike bandit.

Another thing about ebay is the use of the old original Honda logo bag as a prop. I have seen "NOS" in the title and an obvious generic part with it on top of the original bag. You dig.

Why the F are there ZERO used Honda original 8mm mirrors on ebay? Does anyone have a set to sell?

That was to keep you from walking into the tail rotor. Did it work?
I don't know who he is, Bobby. Just a guy with a lot of parts at reasonable prices.
