Thundersprint in UK
« on: May 05, 2006, 12:38:02 PM »
Any of you UK guys going to the Thundersprint on Sunday. Top event. Classic racing bikes around a closed sprint course in the town centre. Many classic racing Hondas from the 60's there. Jim Redman riding a full on 750/4. 50,000 folk attend. Cavalcade of racers and classic biikes do two laps of the town centte before racing commences,

Look out for me on bike 274 78' 550/4 and come say hello

Yes,
If the weather holds up I'll be there unfortunately the CB750F1 will not as it is in bits at the moment so I'll be in the car.

Cheers

What a pity you guys didn't post earlier, we could have all met up.
I was off line from early thursday morning, so didn't see your posts.
I have taken part in every Thundersprint, untill this year.
It takes till june and the warmer before the winter blues and the aches and pains leave my old joints, so this year I declined my invitation.
With Malc Wheeler dropping out, I would have carried the #2 plate behind Jim Redman, but with the big name of Sammy Miller joining the fray, I would have probably have stayed at #3. :'(
The weather held out and I realy enjoyed watching from the other side of the fence but the place I longed to be was on the bike.
Maybe next year in one of the smaller (slower ;D) classes.

Hi Sam

Yes what a great day. I have done the Cavalcade for the past few years, and really enjoy the atmosphere and the craic. Found the run a touch slow this year behind the Mayor, must have been worse for the full on racing bikes with sliiping cluthches and narrow power bands. My old wrists were sore at the end from the stop start action.

Your right it would be better if the wather were warmer, I got absolutley p****d through on the way home to Manchester, but nothing new there then I guess!

Enjoyed a chat with Sammy, Jim and Leon Haslam and drooled over the vast array of bikes. I was particularly taken with the two Simsons from Germany, which I have never seen in the flesh before.

Perhaps see you next year or at one of te other classic meets.

Regards

Yes Bob, what a good day.
The police estimated over 130,000 spectaters, 20 odd thousand up on last year.
I have to agree with you on the snails pace cavalcade, it was the police car that dictated the pace not the Mayors car.
It didn't bother me to much as I was in a Rolls Royce behind Jim Redman.
I don't think we went over 20mph ;D
I live on the A57 just over the Manchester border near Cadishead, perhaps we can meet up sometime.
Give me a PM if you are up for it.

Hi guys,
We have been out of the UK for the past 10 years so had not heard about Thundersprint, but we had a great day, saw your bike parked up Bob but you must have been oggling all the other bikes like us ! We will be back next year, will have to wait now for Oulton Park at the end of the month, but I can't see my bike being ready by then so again we will be in the car, may bring the grandson along, and start educating him.

Cheers
