Starting procedures
« on: September 14, 2011, 11:28:30 PM »
I don't have an owners manual for my 77 Hondamatic and am wondering if anyone who has one can post the starting procedures as described in the manual, maybe a copy and paste.  I found a pdf file for an= cb750 owners manual but it's not the hondamatic.  Am wondering if the starting procedures are the same.  Here's a link to that manual:  http://pdfcast.org/pdf/honda-model-cb750-owner-8217-s-manual

Thanks...

Got the "Service manual".   Am looking for the "Owners manual", my search of the "forum" above my head did not locate anybody ever uploading a copy of the "Owners manual".  I am pretty dense sometimes so I could have missed it but I'm exhausted from doing exhaustive searches.   :-[ :-\ ???

Unfornately - no one has ever taken me up on my offer to scan their owner's manual.  I have an ebay notification for an owner's manual, and in many months - not a one has come up for sale.

In regards to me starting procedure - I take advantage of the accelerator pump - I take the throttle to full twice before I set the choke and hit the start button.  My bike will start immediately that way - doesn't even have to turn over much at all.

Do you mean for the A model? (no luck)

I wouldn't think they would be any different than a K model.

My manual states "do not twist throttle as flooding may occur".  ;)

Kandrtech, there is a manual on ebay right now if your okay paying $35.  I'm just curious what the manual says about starting.  In my 1979 XL500 manual it specifically says to let it warm up for two minutes before riding.  My 750 seems to take forever to warm up.  I can drive with the choke closed and it will be fine within a mile or so (I've read other posts to this effect also) but I don't like to do that.  So I was hoping somebody with a owners manual could shed some light on the subject.  Here's the link to the ebay auction:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3984Q2em1438Q2el2649QQitemZ140599802329QQsspagenameZSTRKQ3aMEWAXQ3aIT

Slipnot, sorry for the confusion over the two books, (I'm getting rather old) ;D ;D ;D ;D
These old motors and the materials they are made of were constructed to work best at a given temprature in conjunction with the oils that were available at the time.
Not warming a motor before putting it under load will just lead to premature wear even with modern oils in it and running a bike under load with the choke on is even a bigger no no.
On a side note, did you know that you can actualy seize a cold motor?

Just read the post about the Owner's Manual on ebay - and it is already SOLD.

Oh well.

I'm still hoping that someone who has a manual will someday scan it in and share it with all of us.  Or . . . send it to me, and I'll scan it, upload the file, and send the manual back (hint hint to all).
