1982 CB 750 F (supersport) questions.

Greetings,

Looking at a 1982 CB 750 F model. Been back and forth for a few days now. Waiting on video. If any of you have dealt with these models please chime in and post. What to do and what not to do. I've been reading on the net and surprised how few OEM parts are no longer available.

Bike is not bad, all there, just dirty. The main issue is he can't get the valve covers to quit leaking. You can tell buy the pictures it's defiantly a mess. Bike is in running condition. The only thing not working is the odometer.

Asking $1400, down to $1000. I'm thinking $800 tops.

looks like a viable option for you.  I have an 81 CB 750 custom.  I would love to get that rear wheel and the master cyclinder. I don't like drum brakes. I would get the honda factory repair book. I got mine last year for around 40 bucks.  It has cool things like the factory schematics for the electrical our bikes were the first DOHCs that Honda produced 79 to 82 they were also the first real crotch  rocket from what I've read.  Our parts are some what harder to come by as the SOHC had a much longer run

I have wrenched on a few bikes...the reason for that constantly leaking head cover
could be excess heat.I had a few customers who made the engines HOT sitting in traffic and revving them alot.I remember a guy that I sold an 83' GS1100E to(that bike had an oil temp. gauge) and I told him to rejet the carbs after he installed a Yosh.
4 into 1 pipe, but he didn't.The temp gauge went over 310 degrees & that was too
hot;I checked the cycle and it was no worse for wear generally, but all that heat had warped the head(valve)cover & try as I might,I just couldn't get it to seal.
The actual Cylinder head & other components was fine,just the "cover" warped.
I think you can pick up a head cover for small $ on ebay,if that's the problem.
I would check(smell)the condition of the oil before I buy it;make sure that it is not a
"sludger".

Looks pretty clean overall and for $800 with title wouldn't be bad at all.  My Dad fixed up an 84 Nighthawk 700 this winter and that bike was FUN!  He sold it pretty quick since it was way too much bike for him to re-learn on.

Thanks everyone. I passed on the bike. Would not go under $1000.00.

To many out there to pay that much for the condition and work that would be needed.

Bike is back in picture. Owner sent me a text message. Dropped his price to $999.00 and told me $750.00. Hmmm. I'm thinking $600.00 now.

Still looks like a lot of work.
