Shame on the media.
« on: September 23, 2011, 09:45:18 AM »
You're a 19 year old kid.
You're critically wounded and dying in The jungle somewhere in the Central Highlands of Viet Nam.
It's November 11, 1967.
LZ (landing zone) X-ray.

Your unit is outnumbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense from 100 yards away, that your CO (commanding officer) has ordered the MedEvac helicopters to stop coming in.

You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns and you know you're not getting out.

Your family is half way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again.

As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day.
Then - over the machine gun noise - you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter.
You look up to see a Huey coming in. But . . . It doesn't seem real because no MedEvac markings are on it.
Captain Ed Freeman is coming in for you.

He's not MedEvac so it's not his job, but he heard the radio call and decided he's flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire anyway.

Even after the MedEvacs were ordered not to come. He's coming anyway.
And he drops it in and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 3 of you at a time on board.

Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire to the doctors and nurses and safety.
And, he kept coming back!! 13 more times!!
Until all the wounded were out. No one knew until the mission was over that the Captain had been hit 4 times in the legs and left arm.
He took 29 of you and your buddies out that day. Some would not have made it without the Captain and his Huey.
Medal of Honor Recipient, Captain Ed Freeman, United States Air Force, died last Wednesday at the age of 70, in Boise, Idaho

May God Bless and Rest His Soul.
I bet you didn't hear about this hero's passing, but we've sure seen a whole bunch   about Lindsay Lohan, Tiger Woods and the bickering of congress over Health Reform.

Medal of Honor Winner Captain Ed Freeman
Shame on the media !!!
Now . . . YOU pass this along.
Honor this real hero.
Please.

Sounds kind of like the movie "We Were Soldiers"
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Yeah, but this is what I hate about the internet.  Someone recirculates this type of story as fresh and ignored by the media.  Others circulate it because they think it's fresh.  This hero's acts are now diminished by this when the facts are brought to bear.

I'm sure Sam got this in some email.  The originator of this email could have handled it with some honesty and without bashing the media.  There's plenty of reasons to bash the media without making stuff up.

I never heard of Captain Ed Freeman until this moment. I would like to thank Sam for bring this amazing hero to my attention. War is hell and people like Captain Ed Freeman bring a form of humanity under the worst of conditions seldom reported and appreciated. Thanks you Captain Ed Freeman and all who serve in the military. These people are the best, Captain Freeman is testament to that fact. May you rest in peace Sir.

I don't understand the shame part, the guy was buried with full military honors, had a post office named after him and was awarded the Medal of Honor while he was still alive. Sounds like the kinds of accolades we heap upon distinguished soldiers that fought for their country, where does the shame come in on this?

Plus he died in 2008- me not follow.  ???

Dont let it get to ya brother. There will come a time when the paris hiltons will fall into oblivion. We shouldnt have been in that war or these wars. Every man will have the opportunity to prove himself. Everyone has to work hard at something to be respected. Do you think those movie starts will get much respect?ever? not likely.  I ride a motorcycle now.  ;D

Well, that depends what media you're talking about.  There are some news outlets that really attempt unbiased reporting.   MSNBC isn't fooling anyone, clearly left and stretching situations.  I heard Fox refer to a group of Republican candidates as "our(s)", so they aren't even trying to hide their bias.  CNN does a decent job by asking opinions of both sides, but you can tell which way the (supposedly objective) news person leans by the questions asked.  And then another problem with all this is 24 hour news networks.  Even on a busy news day, a lot of crap has to be repeated, over and over.  Hard to do this without fluff and entertainment "news".

Paris and the like won't disappear soon enough.

To be honest, perhaps I should have looked into it but I was ready to depart work and thought it was worth sharing.
Although I have quite a hatred of the media in the UK (been put out of business thanks to their sensationalist reporting) I realy did think this was worth a share irespective of my thoughts on the media.
It's time for bed now but if you would like to see a reply from the thread I borrowed this tale from, well here you go. This is how a Russian poster saw it, a guy who is not affraid to speak his mind but needless to say, he got dragged through the coals backward. ;D ;D ;D
Everyone has one, you know what I mean ::).

talkin mass media is a common place itself talkin nahm war is just another 1 i give a fark about reaping laughs im a grim reaper lol the thread was empty anyway before my reply america is still pokin its nose in every sh*t hole on the planet takin itself for the worlds leader guru or saviour well perhaps ul be surprised but the rest of the world thinks different u cant teach anyone  anything ur real interest is the worlds domination and markets control rough but true

It was definitely worth sharing, Sam.  No worries.  The only thing that would have made it better was left out by the Russian with no language skills.
