I have an extra set of mufflers & the left headpipe for the 72' & 73", muffler # HM344,
which is the correct mufflers. The mufflers are very solid;the right one has been taken apart & professionally repaired by a welder. These mufflers are completely sealed and ready for years of use. That 73' is SO pretty though...& these
parts sure wont match the like new shine of your "time capsule" CB350G.

Need pics please! Between yours and Larry's I might be able to work something out.

Does anyone have a center stand spring they could measure for me? I have one off a CB 750, part numbers are close but there is no way I'm going to stretch this spring over two (2) inches.

The spring I have measures five (5) inches.

If you have an extra and it's longer I would like to purchase.

Moving right along on the 350 G rebuild. Picked up some head pipes on flea bay that cleaned up nicely. Mounted the rear bracket hangers and such. Thanks again Larry for the brackets.

And now some pics.

Not perfect but good enough for this build. I'll post up a bunch of pictures when the mufflers get here. Should be a couple of weeks if they shipped Friday.

I'll have a few parts for sale when completed. Let me know what you have when your ready.

Toytuff,
Do your repro mufflers come w/ exhaust packing gaskets & clamps ? I hope so because I learned that either one of those parts were never available from Honda.
I looked on my older microfiche & also the online ones on different sites & have come up short.I do have one other option that I will be trying...& it looks very promising for the OEM packing/gasket(that joint shakes & vibrates so much the O.E. is really the best option);it just seems like they always needed that part but...who knows why Mr. Honda didn't list it ? !

Not sure what you mean buy "exhaust packing" but yes, I ordered clamps also. Not sure if OEM however. The end of the mufflers are slotted, slip over the pipe, then clamped.

REAL nice repros;that will keep your CB350G looking showroom ! The gasket I am referring to is the one that goes into the muffler & seals the system to the headpipe. The bike runs the best w/ completely sealed  exhausts. TT,I hope that your carbs have stock jets;do you think they may have rejetted them for that high flow 2 into 1 you had on there ?

The PO said yes but I really doubt it.  Will see how it runs. I see what you mean. Nothing on the fische about gaskets. Sure they had any?

Got a seat put together out of two I have. Installed new tank mount rubber, air cleaners etc. Next is clean up the rear wheel, install new brake pads. After that it's replace fork seals, front brake, master cylinder, turn signals and clean front wheel.

Latest pictures.

Come to think of it when I removed the old two into one pipe there was a thick metal sleeve that was underneath the exhaust joint pipe. I could not figure out why they were actually there.

Is this what you are talking about?

I see the red arrows in your pics & I believe those are just adapters for the head pipe flanges that mount these pipes to the head ports.I imagine you must have the half circle O.E. collars that you used to mount up those nice stock head pipes. I want to tell you TT that I believe I know of a solution to the "missing head pipe to muffler exhaust packings". I am pretty sure that Honda makes the correct parts for that & I'm going to check it out on a couple other models.
I remember removing the original CB350 clamps...and I'll tell you this:THEY ARE A BEAR;by that I mean that Honda considers the mufflers a "one piece" part !
I worked on a mans 70 CB350K2 back in the 90's,I replaced his L. muffler assembly.I ordered it from my dealer up in NH. and they told me that it is considered "one piece"... I had to order the complete L. side exhaust system !
I have removed a few CB350 head pipe to muffler clamps before;they seal the end of the threads up w/ a certain type of hard metal round crimping collar.I think they do this so that the parts won't vibrate off because their is A LOT of vibration at that muffler joint. I also remember that I have tried to order that muffler gasket & clamp for years & could never get it (NEVER available!) so I ended up using another product that was less than satisfactory and had to keep fixing my customers bike every 6 months.I re- used the O.E. clamp and just put some muffler sealer tape in there between the 2 parts..but vibration would kill the part every time.I am going to use the O.E. clamp on my present repaired mufflers & just use a longer allen head bolt & put another nut on the ends to lock them together & put a lock washer between the 2 & pray that it stays put.
I know that they run Terrific when that area is fully sealed.
I will let you know what parts my research turns up after I comb through the different model years of Hondas to find the correct part for this application.
I know it must exist,All I have to do is find it(I need to do this exact same task on my mufflers because I am tired of running too lean jetting).
The Hunt is ON !  Wish me luck now.

Good Luck!  ;)

I received my mufflers today. They are gorgeous!

I do have a problem though. The muffler slides up the head pipe but the collar on the head pipe prevents the rear muffler bracket to line up. About a 1/4 inch short.

Can't cut the muffler as it would chip the chrome. I'm not sure all 350 twins had this collar but it appears there are three (3) small welds holding it to the pipe. If I can remove this collar then the muffler will line up with the bracket.

I'll post pictures later.

OK, maybe Larry can chime in as he has stock head pipes.

Here is the collar:

And here is the muffler on the bike as a mockup:

As you can see the muffler does not slide forward enough to line up the rear bracket:

And some pictures of the right side muffler.

TT,
That collar that is welded to the headpipes is meant to lock in w/ the O.E. muffler clamps and as you accelerate, vibrate, etc. the O.E. clamp has a kind of hook shape to the end of it which catches the front edge of that collar and hangs on to the muffler/pipe assembly, so that even if you were to loose clamping down on a good tight exhaust packing(I've been looking on the websites/fiche,my parts, other members of forums & their measurements, etc. ...the search continues)as the O.E., your muffler would stay held on w/ that hook/clamp set up. How do the clamps look that you purchased ? are they similar to O.E. & do they have that hook/holder section that I mentioned ? I you need to, you can find many of those O.E. CB350K2,3,4,5 exhaust muffler clamps in a salvage yard off of a completely rusted out muffler pair...those clamps last forever even if the mufflers are disintegrated from rust;then you have a job removing the thread sealing collar off of the clamp bolt as I described in an earlier post.
If you can, post a close up pic of the muffler clamp that you purchased, also measure the front to back width of your clamp & then I can measure the O.E. ones I have to see if they are wide enough to allow you to move the muffler back to where it will fit w/ your rear hanger brackets.I can also recommend turning your rear hanger brackets over(remove them from the 2 muffler mount bolts & flip them over),I've done this before & it made up the difference in the correct fore/aft distance that was required.
TT, I have been on a roll w/ my research on those muffler packings & hope I can give you the good news tomorrow; make sure you have new head to pipe (round ring) gaskets also.

TT,
It's difficult to see the front (clamp-able) section of your mufflers from the pictures you just posted;if you like,I can measure the length of my mufflers tomorrow & also the dimension from the front of that clamping section to the forward most mounting bolt if that will help...let me know if you need that.

I'll get some daylight pics tomorrow. The clamp is nice but does not cover the head pipe collar.

As far as rear brackets I have a freind out in Ohio that can fab me up some new ones leaving the lower holes the same and moving the top hole forward 1/4 inch.

So you are telling me that the muffler clamp on the head pipe "hooked" around the flange? I would think that the rear bracket and front muffler clamp would hold everything in place. Here is a picture of Larry's pipes showing clamp.

If you can find a part number for the clamp I could send some emails on my end also.
