CB350 TWIN REAR WHEEL ON A CB350F BIKE
« on: July 08, 2010, 09:23:12 AM »
My current 350F has an tiny old rear tire. 80/100 i believe. My 350 twin however has a beautiful 120/90 BT45 tire on it. I was hoping that i could pop on the rear wheel from my twin to ride around until my twin project bike is closer to completion.

The components look similar on the fiche.  You could take a caliper and measure the hub and spacers you have to make sure it will line up, all that really matters is that you get the wheel centered and that the rubber doesn't rub the swingarm.

Great minds think alike, I suppose.  The 350 is my 'Maslow" bike.  I've had it all from the custom built, to the cruiser, to the tourer, to the modern racer and even recently to the sidehack.  No matter how fast you go, hard you corner or long you haul, a 350F is the pure essence of motorcycling.  Since you got me all philosophical, I will leave you with this saying:

Curiosity killed the cat, the chinese restaurant killed the dog.

Now get off the internet, bolt on that wheel, and hit the road!

Sprockets are different, everything else looks the same, as in same part numbers.
Go metric, every inch of the way!

When you give this a try can you post before and after pics?  If this works and looks good I might be picking up a twin rear rim in the near future.
I've been reading your other treads, I hope you get your carbs all straightened out soon! Sounds like you are on the right track. Good Luck!

yeah, i'll definitely reply with my results. I just want to get the bike running strong first.

Sounds like it won't be a problem at all, aside from the sprocket sizing.

cheers

no problems. Axle, washers, spacers..all the same. easy breezy. Sprockets look different size but i have more pressing issues with my bike to count them...

And i can confirm that a 120/90 18 rear wheel will fit on a CB350f and a twin.

cheers.

I guess it will also fit on a cb400f since the 350f and 400f have the exact same rear wheel. Good to know.

Why don't you either try it or just swap tyre?
Both have WM2 rear rim (1,85") which is really too small for a 110/90 so a well oversize 120 is just going to be messed up no matter what.
Personally, I wouldn't even consider fitting a 120 on less than WM3 rim (2.15")

the 80/100 tire that came with the bike looked questionable. It was out of safety that i chose to take the rear wheel from my project bike and install it on my commuter as it is in better condition. I do have new tires on order. 90/90 (i believe. or whatever is stock size) for the front and 110/90 (100/90 were my first choice but unavailable). This is just to use until the new ones come in. I'm not ripping around on highways. This is a city bike and I am not an aggressive rider.

Main 'problem' with oversize tyre on narrow rim, it wears real quick in center.
Depending on manufacturer, it could make bike less stable
3.5" is only 90mm,(88.9mm) that's what rim was designed for.
100 fits and works fine and is 'usual' 10mm oversize. (3,93")
110 is too big (4.33") and 'wastes' over an inch of tread each side, it isn't possible to use all tread as parts of 'undercarriage' drag on ground (friend has 110/90 Avon Roadrider on back of CB360, WM2 rim)
It fits OK and looks OK though.
Bike doesn't appear to be unstable, although today was first time it got up to (indicated) 70mph
I can't even imagine what a 120 (4.72") on 1.85" rim looks like? (balloon tyre?)
