Custom exhaust...where can I get a baffle like this?
« on: September 25, 2011, 02:47:55 PM »
So, I REALLY like the Yoshi replica exhaust. BUT...I don't like losing the centerstand (though I could learn to live with that), but removing the pipes to change the oil filter seems like a headache. I also have some concerns about clearance as I plan on running a CB650 oil cooler.

So....I was thinking about using a MAC (or any other) header that is designed to clear the oil filter and retain then centerstand and fabbing up a pipe that mimics the Yoshi pipe.
Any good muffler shop should be able to help fab up the pipe. That's the easy part. One thing that I love about the Yoshi is the sound. Where can I get a baffle like that?
I asked Carpy and he said no, that the baffles are made for each exhaust (which I find a little hard to believe, but anyway). I haven't aske Chris about a Yoshi replacement baffle yet, so maybe an email or call to him is in order.

Any other ideas? Pictured is Carpy's baffle and a Yoshi replica pipe to show what I'm talking about. (Nabbed these pics off the web/forum, so if they're yours....Thanks!).

And this is the "muffler" portion on the Yoshi pipe. Should be easy enough to duplicate and easy to add to a MAC pipe.

Scott, Carpy is full of #$%*, i would have asked him, "if all the pipes are the same dimensions then why would they all need individually made baffle's".......  Most pipe manufacturers also stock baffles to suit. Just looking at those baffles, they would be very easy to make.....

Find somebody with moderate welding skills (The muffler shop you mentioned!?) and make your own. Really not that difficult either.  The perforated materials can be had at metal suppliers or just buy the pre-fab stuff linked above. I'm certainly no real welder, but came up with these for some old Yosh cans I had; even tapered the baffle for best flow:

My thoughts exactly, but I asked and he replied. No need to get into a pissing match with him.

DavePhipps, Silverback and Dave500, Thanks! That's all good information.

Dave500, that's almost exactly what I was dreaming up in my mind. What header do you have?
Is that 1" or 1.5" perf. tubing? About how long is the insert? I'd love to hear a sound byte of your bike.

ill measure it up scott,,ive only just opened up the outlet to the same size as the internal baffle,i only rode it today and its a bit rowdy and i feel it needs a little more backpressure,im going to rig up a washer over the end cap somewhere between what size it was and the size it is now,,i dont trust sound recordings the fidelity is always crap.,heres how big the outlet was before,i rode it like this for months,i had a little fluffy idle turbulent sound though.

its 40mm scott,a little over inch and a half, the old outlet was 25mm(one inch)ive made it just over 40mm now,,heres a sound for you,its rowdier when riding it.

Dave, i would leave that as it is, there is plenty of back pressure, you should see the opening on my Yoshi's compared to your pipe.... ;D
Sounds great.... At least leave it as is until i have a listen on the 9th.... :P

Yamiya can supply a couple of different types of the the Yosh style baffles if you wanted to go that way.
About 1/2 way down the page.
