Hello from Northwest Florida
« on: September 28, 2011, 08:03:45 AM »
I'm picking up a 1973 Honda CB 350 Four next week. I've driven a few Vespas in my day (even a '79 P200 as a daily driver that I had to drive 100 miles to work on for over a year), but I've never had a good old fashioned motorcycle. I always work on my own bikes but I've never dealt with an engine with multiple cylinders. Honda CBs are my favorite bikes so when it was time to go back to two wheels to cut down on my costs I had my eye out specifically for a 70s CB. The one I ended up finding is in pretty good shape other than the charging system being kaput (I'll have to diagnose that once I get it), the front disc brake needs bleeding/cleaning and maybe a rebuild, and the carbs have sticky floats that make the fuel overflow a bit. It still starts with a button (like I'll ever use that -- I like the bad-assery of kickstarting)

Also, this bike is going to be a daily driver. I live where it never gets too cold to ride (or at least not too cold for me  8) )

Did you call me on the phone the other day?

And welcome aboard.  Plenty of experience here.  And that makes at least 3 of us with SOHC 4s here in Pensacola that communicate.

Yeah, that was me. I wasn't sure if I got the right number. When will you be free next week (or the week after)? I'm probably not going to be able to get a legit tag on it until another paycheck rolls around midway through October, and I'd like to see if we can get the charging system sorted out.

This website is great. I've been reading up on the stuff I need to do to get that bike roadworthy.  I'll find out how far gone that front caliper is when I get it. I'm hoping I don't have to rebuild too much stuff right at the beginning. This is going to be a somewhat slow process and I want to do things right, but I need to be driving it within a couple weeks if possible.

Who's the other Pensacolite?

I just recently got a smartphone, and I hadn't been using it for internet unless I wanted to listen to music or something. Now I'm on here any free moment I have just to ogle these beautiful bikes. I'll shoot you a PM when I know more about my transportation situation next week. I am definitely picking up the bike on Wednesday or Thursday, but I'm not sure what time. I hope we get to ride together soon.

Here's a much higher quality picture of the bike than was in the CL ad. The right sidecover isn't on the bike in the picture because the PO was charging the battery, but he has it. It's the only thing with faded paint on the entire bike and it's faded almost completely white. The only thing I can think that would cause that is sitting in the same spot in a garage for a long time with one window that shined directly on that sidecover  ::)
