It is not the Oil, it is the additives that are not very good for the clutch.

If it's a "supercenter" Walmart, it should carry the filter. All three Walmarts within 50 miles of my house carry them. Each store has this little nook of an aisle one over from the automotive care products (wax/wash/polishers/cleaners) aisle. Fram CH6009 for $4.64. I bought out the whole shelf. Nobody on ebay can even match that price. It also comes with the two o-rings for the filter housing.

Also CycleGear carries K&Ns version of the filter. Couple of neat Mom&Pop motorcycle shops around here have them too.

Bit too far from VA:)   I took this list with me and - except for Advanced Autoparts - checked every car parts store in Manassas and Warrenton for an oil filter.  Found nothing.

These are metal filters that could be used on CB with thread adapter, btw, but in the same time I checked for CH6009 or equivalent.

I stopped at AA yesterday and they have a whole motorcycle section and sure enough, there was CH6009 together with other bike filters.

Thanks for the tip!

Rotella is $13/gallon at Walmart.
From what I've read in various American publications about how Walmart is run, I could never make myself to buy anything from them.

I understand and respect that. I buy my motor oil at Walmart because I'm a freshman in college... money's tight.

I also found that the local O'reilly's only carry's motor oil in gallon jugs... for only slightly less than the 5 quart jugs that Walmart carries. Tricky. I don't buy oil from them anymore because it does seem to me to be a legitimate ploy to make money. After all, what car do you know of these days only takes 4 quarts of oil? Maybe I'm paranoid.  ???

The Rotella full syn 5W/40 is JASO MA rated, just so you know.

I know what I'm putting in my bike next oil change  ;) And that stuffs only $17 a gallon.
My v6 xterra is 3.5 qt

Here is your chance to boycot the Dutch. Remember us? We're the horrible lot that was last to abandon slave trade. But guess what, thanks to Walmart we're doing fine again. Although there are no Walmart stores in he Netherlands, Walmart is making our country great again. Every time you buy at Walmarts, we, the Dutch get richer. The company has assets of $ 205 billion, $ 85 billion of which is outside the US. 90% of foreign assets is parked in Luxembourg ($ 64 billion) and the Netherlands ($ 12 billion). The Dutch subsidiaries include the 592 UK stores from Walmart. It is interesting that four of the five Dutch subsidiaries are a cooperative and that may well have to do with the shuttling of dividend. The Luxembourg subsidiaries are in charge of more shops and in addition they have $ 41.5 billion in loans to the US holding. That costs the US Treasury $ 1.5 billion annually, according to the researchers and the whole loan structure is their main complaint. How much tax Walmart pays in the US is not known, but the $ 16 billion profit was made on sales of $ 486 billion. More numbers: measured by turnover, it's the largest company in the world and employs 2.7 million people across 28 countries. In the Netherlands and Luxembourg, and 13 other countries Walmart has no activity whatsoever, except the administration of loans and royalties and the channeling of funds. Cheers.
Maybe Garage Guy Chris has offered you a good alternative.

I have owned my CB750 since 1977. I ran Castrol GTX, Valvoline racing (mineral), Mobil 1
Motorcycle oil, and now I am running 0W-40 European Formula FS Mobil 1 synthetic. Bike
shifts the best it ever did!!! You can get it for $5.79 a quart. Never had failure with 836, 915,
1030 and now 970 kits through the years.

Honda automobiles use a SAE 0 - whatever oil. Pain in the ass to get unless you have your oil changed at the dealership. I wonder why?

i run Rotella 15w-40 without problems in my 76 CB750F.   its what i have in the shop on ready demand...i work on lots of engines, most of em diesel.  I used to run Valvolene 20w-50, and still do occasionally when it gets very hot in the summer.
But I pretty much run the Rotella in everything from the lawn mower and snowmobiles to the bikes and the trucks and tractors.  Its basically gonna be your personal preference and riding style as to what you run............do be wary of the synthetics tho.clutches can slip on them.

I love the standard grade Shell Rotella 15/40 and it's very affordable;works great in my wet-clutch and transmission.

Motul 5100 10W-50 Semi synth seems to be OK too.
Finding neutral when warm is much easier with Red line 20W-50 full synth, though.
I'll try Motul 7100 10W-50 (full synth) next time.

Finding neutral when warm is a good way to find a matching motorcycle oil to a CB.

I have an unrestored, original 1975 550f . Purchased in 1994 with 6400 miles, I tried Mobil 1 in it about a year later. Shifting was the best I ever had in a jap bike. But the dreaded head gasket leak began, and became more than just weepage.
I also tried mobile 1 in a 1987 Monte Carlo SS  that was as dry as a bone underneath when purchased. It also began seeping.
I run synthetic in my 02 Camaro, an 08 Silverado , a2012 Volvo and a 2013 Camry, no leaks.
I had read from legitimate sources  that older gaskets swell with conventional oil and synthetics do not swell the gaskets, so seepage can occur in older vehicles. I didn't believe that until it happened to me. Of course that is the science behind extended life motor oils.
I returned to conventional oil and the leaks stopped.
Synthetics can result in leaks when conventional oil does not...

Rotella 15w-40 in my race bike. It gets hotter than hell waiting to get out on the track idling and I have no issues finding neutral from either first or second gear. The clutch seems to grab properly and so far no issues. Due to the economical price, I can change it whenever I want.

Zero is the best at cold start ups---provides instant protection. Look up a guy that goes by 540Rat on
corvette forums. I realize anyone can say anything on the net but he has spent a huge amount of time
on oil testing. From what I have read, he looks legit. You will learn everything you need to know about
oil!!!!! You will spend HOURS looking at all his info. No one has disputed his credentials or methods of
testing. The European Formula has the best wear protection in his latest wear test---check it out.

My understanding is that they have reduced the zinc in American gasoline engine oils.
Rotella meets diesel standards which has not reduced zinc....and motorcycle specific oils supposedly have not reduced the zinc..
I guess the European formula has ample amounts of zinc?....

This is correct. It's not the oil itself that is leaking per se . . but it cleans out the dino oil that is caked and doesn't naturally seal itself as the dino does. So it shows leaks that should have been shown earlier.

Synthetic oil molecules physically form a more round molecule. Yes it's a chemistry thing, but the resulting physical shape is slipperier . It rolls over itself and other surfaces easier, with less friction.

I know it is an old thread and, really, like most of you guys, I hate to participate but the above post seems to be the only one that cuts to the chase and touches the core of the problem between automotive and motorcycle specific oils. The reduction in additives to make automotive oil more environmentally friendly is an issue for motorcycles with flat tappets or lifters. I have 16 bikes and I will not use automotive oil in any of the classics. The fact that some people do and do not have a problem is irrelevant for me if you look at the physics and chemical facts. Google ZDDP.
