What's this part for?? (1980 CB650C oil passage)
« on: September 29, 2011, 11:25:11 AM »
It's #2 on thishttp://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/1980-honda-cb650c/o/m1977#sch16289  diagram.  Listed as an oil passage cap.

A cap I obviously understand, but does anyone know what the passage itself is for??

I think(dangerous pastime) that passage was just part of the machining process, and then plugged.

Thats what it seemed to me as well.  I thought I'd ask since I had a bad oil leak from that cap (seeping out the bottom of my alternator cover).  Hondabond4 seems to have remedied the situation.

Its very difficult to drill a hole when you need solid metal at both ends!!

Consequently you need the cap to seal the hole----did you notice it is supposed to have an "O" ring on it? Also if you run the engine with the generator cover off it will disapear into the darkest, most inacessable place arround whilst leaving behind an expanding puddle of oil
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!
