1977 cb750 "Grievous"
« on: October 01, 2011, 10:41:40 PM »
Hey guys,
I signed up with this site awhile ago but I never got to posting, I have a thread in dotheton, but they don't have much cb750's so I would imagine this forum would have more. And be a bit more help. Haha.

So what I am working with is a $500 dollar, k7 cb750. No title, didn't run, but with compression.

I am making a cafe racer, modeled after "general grievous" from star wars. Primary colors are grey, black, and a dirty white.

What I've done so far was torn down the bike, put new gasketsin the motor, rebuilt carbs, new electronic ignition, re did all electrical couplers, and clean tank.

Parts gotten so far: clubman's, dyna electronic ignition and wires, rear sets, Mac exhaust, coils, headlight brackets, tach and speedo, and I believe that's it other than stuff I had replaced.

What I am working on now is electrical <naturally> I have spark but my starter doesnt turn. I don't know if this due to a dirty switch or it's not hooked up properly or the combination of both. Looking through my wiring diagram doesn't seem to be hooked up wrong or missing a connection. Could be my starter is bad. :o

I will post pictures tomorrow of the whole build thus far.

Thanks,
Hohokam

welcome.  Could be bad starter, more likely wiring.

Take a largish screwdriver you don't care about much, and jam it between the two studs on the solenoid switch. Touch the nuts, the threads can de damaged from the spark. The starter motor should turn over. If not, bad motor. If it does, wiring or switch problem (the starter button or the solenoid switch).

Thank's for the replies guys, I'll try that trick soon to se if my starter is bad or not.

I have another question. I am trying to start my bike using the kick starter and starting spray. i kick it and sparks come out of the exhaust... I am sure it is not a good thing. i'm sure my bike isn't going to explode if i try to kick it over some more but what could be causing this? Some residue in the pipes? or in the motor just catching the combustion stroke? i stopped before i made things worse.

Why does it have to have a name or a theme? "general grievous"

That locks you into colors etc.,. Why don't you pick your own colors?
Think for yourself . Don't be another Matrix copy cat.
You do not have to do everything in a group, or have a theme.
Be independent and be your own hero.

Your whole generation could end up with NO movie stars and NO heroes.
Only groups following each other around in a codependant fog saying"we can do this" if our leader helps us to get started.

It looks like you have the skills to be your own man.

Wouldn't you say the choice to do a build in a certain fashion is being " independent and your own hero" I chose to build it this way with my own design, it's not going to be a 7 ft robot wielding 4 light sabers. I've been influenced by star wars since I was I child, and I am sure you have been influenced in something the same way, and I'm sure your influences have effected your decisions in some way also. So what if I decide to honor my influences, it is my choice. If I wanted a green bike I would have built it that way. Same as if I wanted purple, gold, rainbow color it's all my choice. You are right, I do have skills to be my own man. I know what I want to do, and this is what I am doing.

Looks good man.  Lucky, he's not running for president, he's rebuilding an old bike how he wants it.

I'm sure your bike will look just like all the other general grievous cb750s out there - one of a million.  Sarcasm there.   If anything, you should be ragged on for choosing a character from the 'first three' movies :D

Seriously I applaud your originality.  I think a theme can be a big asset in helping to organize your design thoughts.  Right now my theme is 'trying to make it not look like #$%*.'

yeah i honestly felt if i was going to get heat it was because it was from the first three but if you have seen the cartoon network edition of the clone wars not the animated on the one by the artist of samurai jack.. it is awesome and grievous was no less haha
